I asked Nigel McGuinness via email about the origins of the “Iron” gimmick that he brings to the ring, here is what he wrote back: “The iron came from when I was attacked in my house by three friends of a guy I’d beat up the week before. My wife was doing the ironing at the time and it saved my life as I put them in hospital with their friend. Since then I never leave home without it. I painted a union jack on it because it looks pretty.”

Dan Forrest wrote: I read the story regarding the origin of Nigel McGuinness’ iron on his page. The story given, which he most commonly tells is to keep in kayfabe. The real story is that he began carrying the iron after a girlfriend’s mother asked him why some wrestlers carried weapons to ringside, and then inquired as to whether anyone had ever carried an iron before.-
