A very bitter Jimmy Jacobs opened the DVD with a promo about the brutal cage match with B.J. Whitmer changing him physically and emotional forever. Jimmy said the best thing to happen to him was Lacey offering herself up to him for one night of ecstasy. He said any guy in the locker-room would jump to that opportunity, but even though he really wanted to do it, he didn't do it. Jimmy said he doesn't want just one night, and scolded the "boys in the back" in the locker-room for their insensitive comments. Jimmy showed off his broken tooth (in a pill bottle) and the stitches and inflammation on his knee. He said anybody can screw, even dogs, but it takes a man like him to LOVE. Jimmy said he loves Lacey and she is close to loving him too, adding that he and Lacey will be together, not because of lust, but because of love. Jimmy Jacobs is the GOD of wrestling promos!
Delirious vs. Pelle Primeau vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Jigsaw vs. Hallowicked vs. Gran Akuma: There were some pretty interesting characters involved in this six-man mayhem match. The four Chikara-based wrestlers have been welcomed with open arms into the ROH fold and should make for some entertaining moments over the next few months. Delirious used his ROH experience to secure a victory over his five up-and-coming opponents ( 6 / 10 ).
Good Times, Great Memories: They showed clips of Colt Cabana and C.M. Punk driving together to/or from an ROH show after Punk had defeated Cabana to win an ROH contract but forfeited the plane ticket to ride with his friend to and from the shows.
Christopher Daniels w/Allison Danger vs. Erick Stevens: This is the kind of match Erick Stevens needs to rise up the ranks of ROH. The Mo-hawk rookie, Erick Stevens, wrestled "the Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels to a 15-minute time limit draw. Erick Stevens respectfully asked the ROH Legend for five more minutes, but Christopher Daniels declined and "pulled veteran status" ordering the rookie to vacate the premises. Christopher Daniels cut the promo of the century saying he should have never come back to Ring of Honor and promptly "quit" the company - choosing to work for TNA over ROH. Seriously this promo has to be seen and heard to be truly appreciated. It ranks as one of the all-time greatest promos ever, and even incited a "This Is Awesome!" chant from the ROH fans even though they were being insulted! Christopher Daniels threw down the microphone and violently shoved Allison Danger down to the mat and walked out of ROH showered by many chants of "F*** you, Daniels!"
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana interrupting C.M. Punk right in the middle of a serious promo to throw a goofy celebration party with streamers and noise-makers.
Homicide vs. Brent Albright vs. B.J. Whitmer vs. Jimmy Jacobs: Everybody shook hands before the match but nobody would shake hands with B.J. Whitmer (for reasons I could not figure out). With the shocking departure of Christopher Daniels and the eminent farewell to Colt Cabana, one can't help but wonder how long before TNA pulls the plug on Homicide. Brent Albright out-muscled his three opponents and picked up an important victory ( 7 / 10 ).
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana challenging ROH World champion Austin Aries in a Steel Cage match..
Rocky Romero vs. Austin Aries: It was the No Remorse Corps against The Resilience in this heated one-on-one contest. Aries was coming off an disappointing (but impressive) loss to Takeshi Morishima, while Rocky Romero had gained momentum by winning a four-corner survival match the night before. They are pushing Rocky Romero very hard, especially the effects of his deadly kicks. Austin Aries really took a beating this weekend, first from Morishima last night, and then from Romero tonight - but miraculously picked up a win over Romero following a Brain-buster and a 450 splash off the top rope ( 7.5 / 10 )! After the match, Roderick Strong attacked Austin Aries until Delirious made the save and chased Strong through the crowd and out the front door!
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana vs. Nigel McGuinness in a Soccer Riot Match (Ballshots are Legal!).
ROH World Title - Takeshi Morishima vs. Shingo: What Shingo ever did to earn a title shot, I'll never know, but I guess it's acceptable to have these throw-away title matches when there is something more important planned for the main event. You can probably guess that Morishima retained his belt, but it's interesting to note that this was a battle of Japanese promotions with Pro Wrestling NOAH vs. Dragon Gate. It was amazing how awesome Shingo was in this match, really stepping up to the plate and hitting a home-run in a match that really could have been extremely terrible. I feel bad now for what I said about Shingo in my last DVD review. Some credit has to go to Morishima for making Shingo's offense look so good. Morishima won this match, the sleeper hit of the night and showed respect to his challenger afterwards ( 8.5 / 10 ).
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana vs. James Gibson for the ROH World title at Dragon Gate Invasion on August 27, 2005..
Tank Toland vs. Alex Payne: After the intermission, Chicago favorite Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne was about to lock up with chubby ROH student Bobby Dempsey when Tank Toland interrupted and insulted both trainees. Tank made a series of cheap fat-jokes at Bobby Dempsey's expense and then offered to become Bobby's personal trainer. Toland dismissed Bobby Dempsey and wrestled on his behalf against Alex Payne. The match should have been 10 seconds long but was stretched out to an unbearable 10 minutes ( 2 / 10 ).
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana vs. Homicide in a Ghetto Street Fight at The 4th Anniversary Show on February 25, 2006..
Roderick Strong vs. Jack Evans: The previous night, Jack Evans was pinned in a four-corner survival match after being knocked out by a stiff kick from Rocky Romero. So Evans went into this bitter grudge match with Roderick Strong at less than 100%, and things didn't get any better for him when Rocky Romero joined Strong at ringside for the match. They had a pretty good battle going on for a while until Romero interfered and knocked Evans out with another stiff kick to the head! Roderick picked up the victory over an unconscious Jack Evans to put a tainted exclamation point on an otherwise thrilling match ( 7.5 / 10 ). Afterwards, Roderick held a chair up and Romero thrust the hunk of steel into Jack's forehead with another brutal kick! Delirious made the save, but as usual, it was too late and the damage was already done.
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana vs. American Dragon for the ROH World title at Gut Chuck on August 26, 2006..
ROH World Tag Team Title - The Briscoe Brothers vs. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley: Ring of Honor fans were throbbing with anticipation when they heard that the Murder City Machine Guns were coming in to challenge the Briscoe Brothers for the ROH World Tag Team titles. I don't understand why Sabin and Shelley are called the "Murder City" Machine Guns some places, and the "Motor City" Machine Guns elsewhere. They went a good half hour or more of good old fashioned tag team wrestling, with minimal high-spots, and still put on an incredible match. TNA probably wouldn't allow Sabin and Shelley to get involved in risky highs-pots. It was an absolute classic, and the fans were begging the Machine Guns to "Please Come Back!" as they shook hands with the Briscoes and helped place the belts back around the Briscoe's waists - a very memorable ROH moment ( 8 / 10 ).
Good Times, Great Memories: Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs w/Lacey.
Backstage, Rocky Romero bragged about taking out Jack Evans, saying he won't get out of the hospital so quickly this time. Roderick Strong said Delirious was obsessed with him and warned him to stay out of his business next time.
Main Event - Colt Cabana vs. Adam Pearce w/Shane Hagadorn: ROH Legend Colt Cabana was welcomed by a flurry of colorful streamers as he entered the ring - don't the fans know they're supposed to wait until the formal announcements for that? The streamers are a nice touch and one of the reasons Ring of Honor kicks so much a$$. Adam Pearce attacked Colt Cabana before the introductions were over, and they rolled around in a sea of bright streamers in the ring. It wouldn't be a classic Colt Cabana match without some comedy. Colt pulled an "Eddie Guerrero" and tricked the referee into ejecting Shane Hagadorn from ringside. Ten minutes later, Adam Pearce was tapping out to the Billy Goat's Curse (Inverted Crab) giving Colt Cabana his final victory in the ring of honor ( 7.5 / 10 ). Thank you, Colt! Thank you, Colt! Thank you, Colt! Colt Cabana said he loved the fans, and said he used to idolize Adam Pearce - even though he's a BIG JERK. Cabana wanted to leave on a good note and offered to shake hands, but Pearce chose to take the low road and spit in Cabana's face! Pearce left and the rest of the ROH roster (well, most of them) came out along with Colt's parents and surrounded Cabana to give him the proper farewell and show him the respect fit for a true ROH Legend. Colt Cabana put over Cary Silkin as the savior of ROH and said this wasn't a farewell, it was a celebration. Colt Cabana gave a really nice speech, and said one day he would return to win the ROH World Heavyweight championship! And as far as I could tell, he didn't cry. Thank you, Colt! And Good Luck!
Final Thoughts: A must-see for any self-respecting Colt Cabana fan. This is the way professional wrestlers should be treated.
