WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

5/22 Smackdown TV results from Cincinnati, OH: Cryme Tyme & John Morrison over Ricky Ortiz, Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin; Michelle McCool over Gail Kim; CM Punk over Chris Jericho via DQ; Dolph Ziggler over R Truth; and Jeff Hardy over Edge in a non title match.

In Brief: Three matches were added to the Extreme Rules PPV. Edge vs.
Jeff Hardy in a Ladder match for the World title; CM Punk vs. Umaga in a Strap match; and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho in a No Holds Barred match for the IC title… Michelle McCool won a Women’s title shot at Melina. It will be interesting to see if any Diva matches make it to the PPV. Historically gimmick matches and Divas don’t mix very well although I do recall a series of hardcore matches between Trish Stratus and Victoria that worked well in 2003, especially this one:

5/22 Raw house show results from Boise, ID: Goldust over Chavo Guerrero after Horswoggle interfeered; The Miz over Santino; Sheamus O’Shaunessy over The Brian Kendrick; Carlito & Primo over Legacy; Beth Phoenix & Maryse over The Bella Twins; MVP over William Regal and Kofi Kingston in a three-way; and John Cena & Batista over Big Show & Randy Orton.

The rescheduled weekend tour continues tonight with the Raw crew at the E-Cetner just outside of Salt Lake City, and the Smackdown crew at Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM. Smackdown also runs the American Center in Las Cruces on Sunday. The much publicised TV taping is Monday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with Mr. McMahon vs. a fake Stan Kroenke and a 10-man tag of Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Big Show and The Miz vs. John Cena, Batista, MVP, Jerry Lawler and a mystery partner.

Smackdown/ECW also tape TV at the Staples Center on Tuesday. To help push ticket sales they have added non-televised steel cage matches.
Monday has Orton vs. Batista and Cena vs. Show while Tuesday has Edge vs. Jeff Hardy. So far around 8,000 tickets are sold for Monday and much less for Tuesday.

We’re looking for reader reports from all of the above shows to you2us@wrestlingglobe.com.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Owen Hart’s passing at 33-years-old after he tragically fell to his death at the Over The Edge PPV at Kansas City’s Kemper Arena. Kirsty Quested at http://tinyurl.com/prz22q has a great piece looking at his life and times. Also want to mention that 15 years ago today Ray Candy (43) passed away who in the 80s was a good hand for Jim Crockett Promotions and various other regional territories, and also 2 years ago today Jill Jarrett (37), wife of Jeff, succumbed to cancer who I am told was a super nice lady. All three gone way before their time.

Natalya blogs about her uncle Owen at http://tinyurl.com/rclqb3.

There is a documentary style DVD in production on Batista. They will be focusing a lot on his younger years coming from a poor background to being in trouble with the law to bouncing in night clubs to bodybuilding which probably saved his life to WWE.

A note on the Randy Savage Macho Madness DVD which goes on sale on 6/9.
Somebody who works in a distribution center emailed us saying they have just received copies to prepare for shipping. The DVD is hosted by Matt Striker and Marie Kanellis who apparently comes off as very knowledgeable. You can pre order the 3-disc set in the US at
http://tinyurl.com/qug5h6 or the UK at http://tinyurl.com/o7odfh

Jim Ross at http://tinyurl.com/p4hf7w has a new blog up. He noted among those interviewed for the upcoming WCW DVD were David Crockett, Harvey Schiller (former TBS Executive), Kevin Sullivan, and Bill Goldberg.
Those producing the DVD really need to read R.D. Reyonds book, The Death Of WCW.

The Fox news affiliate in LA at http://tinyurl.com/plgt9w has a story on all the disappointed WWE fans in Denver, noting some were left out of pocket due to Tickmaster not giving full refunds.

Tommy Dreamer at http://tinyurl.com/p3ezeq confirmed as reported here he was offered a new contract but is claiming he won’t sign if he doesn’t win the ECW title by 6/6. He also said he doesn’t want to be on TV in a non wrestling role. On going to TNA, he said: “I have close relationships with many of their wrestlers. I have nothing but great things to say about Dixie Carter. I have tons of respect for Jeff Jarrett for what he did in WWE as well as for taking a risk in starting your own company. I watch every week because I am a huge wrestling fan and enjoy the show. I am just seeing my journey to the end. Good or bad.”

WWE is partnering with the Hulu video website at http://www.hulu.com/companies/50 where they are now streaming full episodes of ECW and Smackdown. Hulu is funded by NBC which owns USA Network and the Sci-Fi channel.

When asked about his recent challenges to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson during his UK press junket promoting 12 Rounds, John Cena said: “That’s me being a selfish fan. I’m trying to do everything to get him back.
Even if it’s one for night, I’ll keep making those challenges. I’ll keep doing what I have to do to get him back.”

The WWE stock closed out the week at $11.79 on the NYSE.

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION WRESTLING NEWS

5/21 house show results from Amarillo, TX: Angelina Love over Taylor Wilde; Jay Lethal over Sheik Abdul Bashir; Suicide over Consequences Creed; Abyss & Rhino over Beer Money Inc; Matt Morgan over Eric Young; and Samoa Joe over Scott Steiner.

The show drew around 800. Terry Funk and Mick Foley worked the main event as special enforcers.

TNA are taping TV on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week in Orlando.
Basically all the TV right up to the Slammiversary PPV which a lot of people internally are second guessing whether or not it’s a good idea.
We’re looking for reader reports if anyone attends to you2us@wrestlingglobe.com.

Sunday is TNA’s Sacrifice PPV from Orlando. We will have a full line up tomorrow as there were some booking changes going on this afternoon.
Just added and opening the show will be Lethal Consequences & Eric Young vs The Motor City Machine Guns & Sheik Abdul Bashir.

Lisa Marie Varon, who wrestled for years in WWE as Victoria, is coming in. She will be doing both wrestling and MMA ala Bobby Lashley. Dixie Carter met her at the UFC Fight Night show in Nashville on 4/1 and expressed an interest in using her. She could debut as soon as Sunday or the TV tapings next week as her WWE no compete just expired.

Jim Cornette at http://jimcornette.com/Commentary.html has nearly 5000 words on the history of hardcore wrestling. A really great read for all history buffs.

Q&A with James Storm at http://tinyurl.com/pszdum who puts over Shawn Michaels as his favorite wrestler.
