Jay Briscoe has passed away.
AEW President Tony Khan broke the news on Tuesday that one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh, has passed away at the age of 38. Khan tweeted, “Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”
As Khan mentioned, Briscoe was a featured member of ROH since the company’s debut show in 2002. In recent years, the Briscoes crossed over to New Japan Pro-Wrestling thanks to a partnership with ROH. When ROH went on hiatus on 2022, the brothers made several appearances in IMPACT Wrestling. Jay and Mark had a series of critically acclaimed matches against FTR under Khan’s ownership of ROH, in which The Briscoes emerged victorious in December to win their thirteenth ROH tag team title.
Dave Meltzer reports that Briscoe was involved in a tragic car accident in Laurel, Maryland, on Tuesday evening.
The Delaware State Police confirmed the news about the car accident.
