Stone Cold Steve Austin eliminated Bret “Hitman” Hart to win the Royal Rumble: Referees didn’t see Steve Austin being thrown out of the ring near the end of the match, and he intelligently slipped back in and continued to fight. He was declared winner of the 1997 Royal Rumble and given a title shot at Wrestlemania XIII. However, a Final 4 match was setup for the February PPV which drastically changed those plans.
