“WWE: Then. Now. Forever.”
Undisputed ERA open the show from backstage, welcoming us to 2018, the year of the Undisputed ERA. Bobby Fish says they closed 2017 in style, winning the NXT Tag Team Championship, but that’s just the beginning. In 2018, they’ll prove to the world why they’re the baddest team on this planet. Kyle says it begins tonight when they take out SAnitY, and Adam Cole assures us he will end anyone who gets in his way and he will be the NXT Champion. With that, the NXT intro takes us to a packed crowd at Center Stage in Atlanta as commentary hype the main event as Undisputed ERA defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against SAnitY! Back at ringside, Shayna Baszler makes her way to the ring for her NXT debut! We get footage from the Performance Center last week where Shanyna attacked a student at the PC using a chokehold, before going back to the ring as Dakota Kai makes her way to the ring next. The bell rings, and this match is underway!
Shayna Baszler vs Dakota Kai
Both women lock up as the crowd chants “SHAYNA’S GONNA KILL YOU” and Shayna sends Dakota into the corner. Kai fights back with a waist lock, but Shayna reverses into a double wrist lock before working the hand of Kai, bending it more and more before stomping a boot into it. Shayna follows up with a kick to the arm before driving her boot to the hand, tweaking the arm! Kai is screaming in pain as the ref checks on her, and calls for the bell!
Winner via ref stoppage: Shayna Baszler
Shayna celebrates in the ring as we get replays from the match, but Shayna hasn’t had enough as she chokes Dakota out! Ember Moon comes out to put an end to things before Shayna takes off, mocking the NXT Women’s Champion as she heads to the back. Backstage, the Authors of Pain speak in a rare occurrence, promising that winners will suffer. Paul Ellering speaks up, saying it doesn’t matter who wins…we want our titles! Commentary hype that up as well as Kassius Ohno taking on Raul Mendoza, coming up next!
We thank Asking Alexandria for “Into The Fire,” one of the official themes of Takeover: Philadelphia! We take a look back at what happened during the last match, as Christy St. Cloud tries to get a word with Shayna before William Regal interrupts, saying he needs to have a word with Shayna. Regal says that he’s been in the business for 35 years, and so whatever games you’re playing…I see right through them. Attacking people from behind isn’t going to get you an NXT Women’s Championship match. Shayna simply asks if they’re done before walking off, and we go back to ringside as Kassius Ohno makes his way to the ring for the next match. Out next is Raul MENDOZAAAAAAAAAA, and the bell rings to get this match underway!
Kassius Ohno vs Raul Mendoza
The two men shake hands before exchanging holds, with Raul getting a headlock on Ohno who lifts him up…but Mendoza gets a sunset flip for a nearfall! Roll through by Ohno, reversed by Mendoza, and both men trade near falls before Ohno throws Mendoza into the corner. Mendoza evades Ohno and hits an Oklahoma roll for a nearfall before hitting a couple hard kicks…and Ohno blocks the third before hitting a big boot on Mendoza! Both men in the corner as Ohno lays in a chop on Mendoza, followed by a forearm for a nearfall. Ohno sets Mendoza up in what is described as a reverse Gory Special, but Mendoza reverses into a rollup for a nearfall! Ohno slams Mendoza before hitting a senton for a nearfall of his own in retaliation. Ohno picks Mendoza up, but Mendoza reverses with an arm drag! Ohno hits a chop and a whip to the corner, but Mendoza hits a kick and a corkscrew arm drag, leaping off the ropes with a kick for a close nearfall. Mendoza gets caught by Ohno, who drops him on the rope before hitting the High Tension forearm for the win!
Winner via pinfall: Kassius Ohno
Ohno celebrates as we get replays from the match, before we go to earlier today as Zelina Vega addresses Andrade’s title match at NXT Takeover, particularly the way that Gargano “earned” his title shot, calling Johnny Gargano a lie. Vega won’t give up any secrets how Almas plans to beat Gargano a third time, but they will make it clear that there is no escaping Andrade “Cien” Almas. Commentary hypes Johnny Gargano taking on Andrade “Cien” Almas. Christy St. Cloud talks to Gargano, who addresses how it feels to earn his title shot when Velveteen Dream shows up, telling Johnny to say “thank you” because he got lucky. You beat Kassius Ohno, and it took you 20 minutes…I’m the Velveteen Dream, and I could’ve beaten him 30 seconds tops. You know it, the Dream knows it. The Dream also knows you got lucky twice, because you shouldn’t have beat Aleister Black. You know that, too. You also know that you won’t be able to beat Andrade “Cien” Almas at Takeover: Philadelphia. The Dream knows it. The Dream knows one more thing…that you didn’t earn the Dream’s spot, and the Dream deserves his spot. Think about it…you know. Dream walks off, leaving Gargano to think about what he said as commentary hypes Lars Sullivan in action up next!
Back at ringside, Lio Rush makes his way to the ring for the next match. Out next is Lars Sullivan (which already gives me an idea of where this match is headed), and the bell rings to get this match underway!
Lio Rush vs. Lars Sullivan
Rush dodges a charge by Lars before hitting a quick flurry of offense and leaving the ring. Lars chases after Rush, who catches him with a rolling heel kick to no effect as Lars drives him throat-first into the ropes. Lars gets back in the ring, and throws Rush into the corner before charging at him. Rush dodges, but Lars drives him into another corner, only for Rush to narrowly escape a shoulder tackle by Lars. Rush gets a head of steam, but gets knocked out with a lariat followed by a Freak Accident that gives Lars the win!
Winner via pinfall: Lars Sullivan
Lars celebrates in the ring as we get replays of the match. Lars gets a microphone, saying he’s faced opponent after opponent…sometimes two at once…and one by one, they’ve fallen at my hand. Now I keep going back to two weeks ago, when I felt a force I never felt before. But that’s good, because it’s a force I want to destroy…I’m talking to you, Killian Dain! With that, he turns his attention back to Lio Rush as he continues the destruction with a Freak Accident off the turnbuckle! Lars stares Rush down from the stage as we cut backstage, where Undisputed ERA is attacking SAnitY! They shout at the men that were set to face them for the titles as they walk off, leaving officials to check on SAnitY as we go to break.
– AD: WWE Mixed Match Challenge –
Back from break, commentary addresses what we saw just moments ago, and we go back to ringside as Undisputed ERA make their way to the ring looking confident as ever. Fish brings microphones for the three of them, greeted by chants of “ADAM COLE” as Cole says he gets the feeling they’re missing something. Kyle asks where SAnitY is, and Bobby suggests they might have forgot. Cole says they didn’t forget…Undisputed ERA kicked the chaos out of them and they’ll kick the chaos out of anyone that gets in their way! Suddenly, Nikki Cross comes running out looking for revenge before officials pull her away and to the back. The crowd chant “NIKKI CROSS” as Cole starts to speak again, only to be interrupted by William Regal who says Undisputed ERA will be defending their NXT Tag Team Championship tonight! Roderick Strong comes out, saying he’ll take on the tag champions. He’ll even go to the back and find himself–Aleister Black’s music hits, and he comes out with a simple “As will I” to indicate his interest! Black and Strong make their way to the ring to deal with Undisputed ERA, clearing the ring of them as we go to break.
– AD: Royal Rumble –
Back from break, the four men in this main event are back in their proper corners, and the bell rings to get this match underway!
Main Event: NXT Tag Team Championship
Undisputed ERA (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) vs. Roderick Strong & Aleister Black
Black and Kyle start things off as Black hits some hard kicks on Kyle, only for Bobby to distract him enough for Kyle to turn things around. Black is back on the attack though, and gets a nearfall after a hard knee to the face of Kyle O’ Reilly, who rolls out of the ring. Strong dives onto Kyle, bringing him back into the ring as Black gets an Oklahoma roll for a nearfall. Black wrenches Kyle’s arm as he tags in Strong, who hits a big dropkick for a nearfall. Whip to the corner as Strong continues the attack, hitting a pendulum backbreaker for a nearfall. Strong locks in a chinlock as Kyle struggles to his feet. Tag to Black, who whips Kyle to the ropes but ends up on the apron himself, as Kyle distracts the ref allowing Fish to knock Black off the apron as we go to break.
– AD: NXT Takeover: Philadelphia –
Back from break, the champs are still in control as Kyle tags in Fish, who drives a knee into Black as Kyle tags himself back in. Kyle targets the leg as Fish tags in, hitting a leg drop for a nearfall. Tag to Kyle as Black starts to fight back, only to be taken down by Kyle who hits palm strikes. Kick into the corner by Kyle and a tag to Fish, who hits an exploder suplex for a nearfall. Fish locks in a tight chinlock as Black struggles back to his feet, hitting his way out of the hold before hitting a sunset flip for a nearfall. Fish goes back after Black, who hits him with a knee as both men go down. Both men struggle for a tag, and Strong and Kyle are both in now as Roderick hits a flurry of offense on Kyle and Fish. Backbreaker on Kyle and belly to belly suplex on Fish before Strong hits a step up knee strike and a backbreaker for a nearfall as Fish breaks it up. Strong clears the ring of Fish before Kyle comes after him, only to take a hard knee to the face by Strong! Fish is incensed when Black hits him with a big boot on the outside! He sends Fish back in the ring when Adam Cole (BAYBAY) gets involved, distracting Black enough to be chased away as Kyle and Fish hit Total Elimination on Strong for the win!
Winners via pinfall and still NXT Tag Team Champions: Undisputed ERA
Black is still in the crowd, shocked at what just happened before he runs back into the ring to go after Fish and Kyle. Cole comes after him, throwing him into the corner as Undisputed ERA now get on the attack. Cole lays into Black as he taunts him before Kyle and Fish hit Total Elimination! Kyle goes out to grab a steel chair, bringing it into the ring as Cole sets it up in the middle of the ring before lifting Black up on his shoulders to drive him through it! Undisputed ERA stand tall over him before leaving the ring as we get replays of what happened in the match. Undisputed ERA get to the stage, standing tall again before William Regal comes to the stage with mic in hand. He says that Philadelphia has an extreme history, and at Takeover: Philadelphia Adam Cole’s match with Aleister Black is now an Extreme Rules match! Cole confronts Regal at first, but just smiles as he backs off. He tells Regal the blood is on his hands before they walk to the back as the show comes to a close.
