June 29, 2009 – San Jose, California
Announcers: Michael Cole & Jerry “The King” Lawler
ON STAGE SEGMENT
Vince McMahon: Mr. McMahon said RAW would NOT be commercial-free tonight, nor will the fans get their money back. Mr. McMahon said Donald Trump negotiated a 15-Superstars trade that cannot be undone. McMahon said he was going to use Trump’s idea for a guest host every week instead of a General Manager. McMahon introduced this week’s guest host.. BATISTA!
IN THE RING
“Guest Host” Batista: Batista milked the crowd reponse and said they were going to have some fun tonight. Batista booked a 4-man night of the champions tournament; The Miz vs. John Cena and MVP vs. Triple H. Batista continued his speech until he was interrupted by Randy Orton with Legacy members Ted DiBiase Jr. & Cody Rhodes. Orton and his boys stayed up on the stage instead of joining Batista in the ring. Orton threatened to march to the ring and rip the rest of Batista apart. Batista said if Orton even looks at him the wrong way, he’ll fire all three of them! Batista said he didn’t want to come back unless he was ready to fight, but Vince told him that he’d have unlimited power. Batista said he can make Orton’s life a living nightmare. Orton said it already was a nightmare after the 3 Stages of Hell match at The Bash. Batista said that Donald Trump’s trade meant that RAW acquired five superstars, but Orton will only have to face three of them in a Gauntlet match – since Orton likes 3-on-1 matches so much. Editor’s Note: That makes no sense, why would Batista book a Gauntlet match instead of a basic 3-on-1 match. How do they expect me to suspend my disbelief?
NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS TOURNAMENT
Triple H defeated Montel Vontavious Porter:
UNIFIED TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Edge & Chris Jericho defeated The Colon Brothers (Carlito & Primo) to retain the Unified Tag Team titles: Before the match, Chris Jericho bragged about winning the Unified Tag Team titles and tried to take credit for it. Edge cut him off and it was his turn to take credit for the championship victory. The good thing about this is that Edge & Jericho can now appear on all three brands.
BACKSTAGE SEGMENT: Randy Orton was strategizing with his Legacy partners when Batista came in and informed them that if Ted DiBiase or Cody Rhodes interfered in the main event they will both be fired on the spot!
NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS TOURNAMENT
John Cena defeated Mike “The Miz” Mizanin:
BACKSTAGE SEGMENT: Ted DiBiase Jr. said his father, the Million Dollar Man, will be next week’s “guest host” on RAW. Randy Orton yelled at Ted Jr., asking him “how does that help me tonight?”
4-WAY #1 CONTENDERS DIVAS MATCH
Mickie James defeated Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes: WWE Diva’s champion Maryse Ouellet joined Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler on commentary and talked a lot of French smack about Mickie James. They did a cool spot where Mickie put a submission on Beth, then Rosa put a reverse chin-lock on Mickie, then Kelly put Rosa in the sleeper-hold. Beth powered out of it and slammed all three of them in the corner. A few minutes later Mickie James pinned Rosa Mendes. After the match, Maryse gave the “talk to the hand” signal to Mickie.
WWE UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH
WWE United States champion Kofi Kingston vs. The Big Show ended in a Double Countout: After the match, the Big Show was fed up and marched backstage with a furious look on his face…
NON (WWE CHAMPIONSHIP) TITLE GAUNTLET MATCH #1
WWE champion Randy Orton defeated Evan Bourne: Evan Bourne was traded to RAW from ECW. Shocking. Bourne made a good showing, lasting quite some time, but was no match for even an injured Randy Orton..
NON (WWE CHAMPIONSHIP) TITLE GAUNTLET MATCH #2
WWE champion Randy Orton defeated Jack Swagger: Jack Swagger was traded to RAW from ECW. Just shocking. Swagger shoved Orton down and left the ring and stood on the ring apron until the referee counted him out. Swagger said it was his first night on RAW and he wanted to make a lasting impression. Swagger stuck out his hand and Orton shook it. Swagger then left the ring with an arrogant grin on his face…
NON (WWE CHAMPIONSHIP) TITLE GAUNTLET MATCH #3
Mark Henry defeated WWE champion Randy Orton: Mark Henry was traded to RAW from ECW. Not as shocking. What WAS shocking was that Mark was acting like a total babyface! He hinted that he also wanted to make a lasting impression, and teased that he would get himself intentionally counted out – but changed his mind. Henry demolished Orton and finished him off with the World’s Strongest Slam, and was so pumped up after pinning the WWE champion. I think it was more of a thrill for Big Mark than it was for the fans…
