ECW on Sci-Fi Network
Announcers: Todd Grisham & Matt Striker
Location: Atlanta, Georgia | Date: August 5, 2008
RINGSIDE
Todd Grisham + Matt Striker: Todd Grisham said there have been a lot of changes going on with announcers in the WWE, including Mike Adamle becoming RAW General Manager last night. Todd Grisham announced that Matt Striker was filling in for Tazz (who would call SmackDown! with Jim Ross the following Friday) tonight.
TAG TEAM MATCH
Evan “Air” Bourne & Ricky Ortiz defeated Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely: It was all about Evan Bourne and his innovative style of offense.
IN THE RING
Mike Knox + Fit Finlay & Hornswoggle: Mike Knox said he was there to explain why he chose to expose the fraud that is Fit Finlay. Knox said that Finlay used to be one of the toughest men in the business but now he spends his time dancing around with a leprecaun. Finlay & Hornswoggle came out and said the things that Knox heard about him loving to fight is just the tip of the iceberg. Finlay said he loves to have fun, and he loves his family (pointing at Hornswoggle). Finlay challenged Knox to take a shot at him, but make sure to knock him out – otherwise he is going to find out if he’s soft or not. Knox decided to back out of the ring and walk away..
LAST CHANCE MATCH
Armando Estrada defeated Tommy Dreamer: This was Armando Estrada’s last chance to earn his ECW contract, or he will be gone from the WWE. Colin Delaney showed up and grabbed a chair at ringside. Tommy Dreamer caught him and Delaney dove over the announce table to safety. A minute later, Delaney got up on the ring apron, and Dreamer grabbed him and rammed him into the ring post. Meanwhile, Armando saw an opening and rolled up Dreamer for the 1-2-3 to win the match and finally earn his ECW contract! How ironic is it that Colin Delaney helped his former rival.
BACKSTAGE SEGMENT
Armando Estrada & Colin Delaney + Theodore Long: Armando Estrada thanked Colin Delaney and asked him why he helped him after all the stuff he did to him in the past. Delaney said Estrada gave him a chance to get a contract, which is more than his so-called mentor, Tommy Dreamer, did for him. Theodore Long came in and said after what Delaney just pulled, he’s going to go 1-on-1 with Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules match next week!
SINGLES MATCH
Braden Walker defeated James Curtis with a Fishermen’s Suplex (aka Perfect plex): A couple days later both of these guys would be released from their WWE contracts.
IN THE RING (THE DIRT SHEET)
John Morrison & Mike Mizanin + Mark Henry & Tony Atlas + Matt Hardy: The Miz & Morrison have done their “Dirt Sheet” segment exclusively for WWE.com for months but now it has moved to television. John Morrison introduced ECW World champion Mark Henry, but his face came on the screen and his lips were the only thing that moved (the old Conan O’Brien gag). Miz & Morrison made fun of Mark Henry & Tony Atlas (and Lena Yada too). After a few minutes of this abuse, Mark Henry & Tony Atlas came to the ring to confront their abusers. Miz & Morrison apologized and smoothed things over with Henry & Atlas, then introduced Matt Hardy. Hardy’s face came on the screen with the moving lips that talked like Forest Gump. Mark Henry said after SummerSlam, Matt Hardy will no longer be number one contender. The real Matt Hardy showed up and the crowd finally woke up. Hardy said they were having a good laugh and said he loved Miz & Morrison in Brokeback Mountain. Hardy said that Mark was right, he won’t be number one contender after SummerSlam, because he will be ECW World champion! Miz & Morrison scolded Hardy and said there were consequences for disrespecting them on their own show. Matt Hardy knocked the Miz out, and Morrison went after Hardy, who ducts, and Morrison smashed Mark Henry in the chest! Henry destroyed Morrison, while Hardy gave the Miz a Side-Effect!
