In the Beginning: Darren Mathews, at the tender age of 15, answered the Pleasure Beach wrestling troupe's open challenge several times.. ~~~Anyone brave enough to challenge the gladiator could earn a hundred pounds sterling if they lasted three 3-minutes rounds.. ~~~Darren Mathews went on to wrestle in 24 different countries--holding 60 titles in the process! Darren Mathews made his ring debut at age fifteen in England.. Darren Mathews performed under his real name for 2 years before adopting the name, Steven Regal.. Steven Regal wrestled around the world, in countries such as Germany, South Africa, France and The Middle Eastern countries.. 1991: Steven Regal had a try-out with the World Wrestling Federation but was not offered a contract.. Late 1991: World Championship Wrestling engaged in a tour of England and gave Steven Regal an opportunity to wrestle on the show.. ~~~William Regal made a great impression on WCW Officials, and was offered a contract a few months later.. April 2003: William Regal sought medical attention and discovered a heart problem.. ~~~This medical condition caused his heart to not properly pump blood through his system.. ~~~Regal's heart was fluttering and not beating properly and was beating to fast on the right side of his heart.. ~~~Regal underwent electric shock therapy to momentarily stop his heart and restart it.. ~~~Regal shot up to 278 pounds (swelling and retaining water) but is now back down to his normal 238 pounds.. The only 100% way to confirm this would be to ask Regal to Break Fabe and ask him the truth. As his Career Story was he was brought up on the rough back Streets of Blackpool, which was not the case, mind you the £10 a night Back Street B&B's in Blackpool could be classed as rough accommodation lol.
