Career Highlights

Canada:

  • Abdullah was born Lawrence Shreeve in The Great White North – Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
  • 1958: Abdullah began his career wrestling in various Canadian indy promotions.
  • Abdullah quickly created his evil Arabian gimmick and extremely violet style.
  • Abdullah was never supposed to be able to speak English, so he worked with several managers over the years.
  • ~~~Including Eddie “the Brain” Creatchman, J.J. Dillon, Gary Hart, Bearcat Wright, Rock Hunter, and many others.
  • October 23, 1967: Abdullah won the NWA Canadian Tag Team title with the legendary Dr. Jerry Graham.
  • Abdullah won the IWA International Heavyweight championship three times between 1969-71.
  • Abdullah won the NWA North American Heavyweight (Calgary) title on four separate occassions between 1970-73.
  • July 17, 1972: Abdullah helped set a Montreal record, wrestling against Johnny Rougeau at Jarry Park.
  • ~~~It was the main event of a card that drew over 26,000 fans and a $100,000+ gate.

  • November 24, 1983 – Starcade: Abdullah the Butcher defeated Carlos Colon.
  • July 6, 1985 – Great American Bash: Manny Fernandez and Sam Houston and Buzz Tyler beat Billy Graham and The Barbarian and Abdullah.
  • November 28, 1985 – Starcade: Manny Fernandez defeated Abdullah the Butcher in a pole match.
  • September 20, 1987 – World Wrestling Council: Bruiser Bordy defeated Abdullah the Butcher by DQ in a “dog collar chain” match.
  • December 26, 1988 – Starrcade: Abdullah the Butcher competed in a bunkhouse stampede match which was won by Junk Yard Dog.
  • October 27, 1991 – Halloween Havoc: Sting‘s Team defeated Cactus Jack’s Team in a chamber of horrors match.
  • ~~~Sting’s Team consisted of Sting and El Gigante and The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner).
  • ~~~Cactus Jack’s Team consisted of Cactus Jack and Abdullah the Butcher and The Diamond Stud and Big Van Vader.
  • ~~~The finish saw Abdullah the Butcher put in an electric chair and team captain Cactus Jack accidentally pulled the switch!
  • December 29, 1991 – Starrcade: Sting and Abdullah the Butcher defeated Bobby Eaton and Brian Pillman in a lethal lottery match.
  • ~~~Abdullah The Butcher later competed in a two-ring battle royal which was won by Sting.
  • September 18, 1993 – UltraClash: Terry Funk and Stan Hansen defeated Kevin Sullivan and Abdullah by DQ in a “Bunkhouse” match.
  • October 1, 1993 – NWA Bloodfest Part 1: Abdullah and Terry Funk and JT Smith beat Jimmy Snuka and Kevin Sullivan and Don Muraco.
  • October 2, 1993 – NWA Bloodfest Part 2: Kevin Sullivan defeated Abdullah the Butcher in a “Steel Cage” match.

Hardcore Legend:

  • Abdullah spent a lot of time in the Giant Baba’ All Japan Pro Wrestling promotion.
  • ~~~Abdullah won their biggest annual tournament – the Grand Champion Carnival – in 1976 and 1979.
  • Abdullah won the NWF heavyweight title, twice, by defeating Ernie Ladd and Victor Rivera.
  • Abdullah won the PWF heavyweight title while competing for All Japan Pro Wrestling.
  • Abdullah defeated Billy Robison for the PWF title in 1978.
  • February 10, 1979: Giant Baba defeated Abdullah to take the PWF title away from him (in Chicago!).
  • Abdullah’s bloodiest battles took place in the blood-soaked Puerto Rico.
  • 1980’s: Abdullah won the Puerto Rican heavyweight title.
  • 1980’s: Abdullah won the NWA United National heavyweight title.
  • 1980’s: Abdullah won the the Caribbean heavyweight title (three times).
  • 1982: Abdullah won the WWC Universal Heavyweight championship.
  • 1986: Abdullah defeated The Great Kabuki for the Texas Brass Knuckles championship in World Class Championship Wrestling.
  • February 2, 1986 – MoscaMania: Jimmy Valiant defeated Abdullah the Butcher in Hamilton, Ontario.
  • 1987: Abdullah won the Canadian International heavyweight title.
  • 1996: Abdullah teamed with Benkei Daikokuboh to win the TWA Tag Team championship.
  • Abdullah was sure never to stay in one territory for too long, which turned out to be a successful strategy.
  • Abdullah’s battles with the equally deranged Sheik were bloodbaths from bell to bell.
  • Abdullah was a prime star for promoters in Japan, Puerto Rico, Australia/New Zealand, Europe, and his home country of Canada.
  • Abdullah is one of the most brutal, bloody, hardcore wrestlers ever.
  • Abdullah has spent five decades inside the bloody squared circle.

The Legend Continues:

  • However, Abdullah just can’t seem to stay out of the ring, he still wrestles in the “new” NWA.
  • October 27, 2002 – AJPW PPV: Abdullah the Butcher and Terry Funk defeated Tarzan Goto and Tomoaki Honma.
  • December 28, 2002 – 3PW: Abdullah the Butcher defeats Bam Bam Bigelow (who was a substitute for Dusty Rhodes).
  • January 3, 2003 – WWC: Abdullah the Butcher defeated mega-rival Carly Colon after a Running Elbow Drop to win the Universal title.
  • July 18, 2003 – Impact Championship Wrestling: Abdullah the Butcher beat “Lowlife” Louie Ramos in a Hardcore Match.
  • June 19, 2004 – IWA Mid South: Mad Man Pondo vs Abdullah the Butcher in a “No DQ” match ended in a NO CONTEST (bloody).
  • October 5, 2004 – IWA East Coast (debut): Abdullah the Butcher defeated Necro Butcher.
  • November 5, 2004 – WWC: Abdullah the Butcher vs Eddie Colon ended in a NO CONTEST.
  • November 6, 2004 – WWC: Abdullah the Butcher vs Mr. Hughes ended in a DOUBLE DQ.
  • November 20, 2004 – World All-Stars: Abdullah the Butcher vs Andy Ellison ended in a DOUBLE COUNT OUT.

  • July 16 2005 – WWC Bruiser Brody Memorial: Bronco #1 and Sabu defeated Abdullah the Butcher and Rico Suave in a Hardcore Match.
  • July 23, 2005 – NWA Wisconsin: Abdullah the Butcher defeated Peter B. Beautiful in Brussels, Wisconsin.
  • August 6, 2005 – Far North Wrestling: Abdullah the Butcher defeated Rockin’ Rebel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • October 2, 2005 – WRESTLE-1 GP: Abdullah the Butcher and Giant Kimala defeated Dory Funk Jr. and Katsuhiko Nakajima.
  • November 5 2005 – WWC 32nd Anniversary: Abdullah the Butcher defeated TNT.
  • November 6, 2005 – WWC 32nd Anniversary: Bronco #1 and Eddie Colon beat Abdullah the Butcher and El Diamante.
  • February 3, 2006 – Frank Goodman’s UXW: Abdullah the Butcher defeated “Low Life” Louis Ramos.
  • April 6, 2006 – Women’s Extreme Wrestling: Abdullah The Butcher was spotted sitting in attendance watching the show.
  • April 9, 2006 – CAPW: Abdullah the Butcher beat Michael Hellborn including Butcher using a kendo stick with thumb tacks!
  • May 2006: Abdullah the Butcher started his own independent record label called “Abdullah the Butcher Records”.

  • April 4, 2009 (Montreal): Hannibal defeated Abdullah the Butcher in what was billed as Abdullah’s Canadian retirement match.
  • August 9, 2009 – JCW Bloodymania III: Abdullah the Butcher vs. The Rude Boy ended a no-contest in Abdullah’s retirement match.
