  • 2006: Rip Hawk now coaches wrestling at the YMCA in Hereford, Texas…Mike Aldren wrote (On March 8, 2010): Rip Hawk (Harvey Evers), 88, who wrestled all over the world during five decades, was reportedly hospitalized last week after he took a fall and broke three ribs. He is also battling pneumonia. Hawk was best known for teaming with Swede Hanson as the Blond Bombers, and he was also a booker for Jim Crockett Promotions in the 1970s. A little known story is that he was encouraged to wrestle professionally in the late 1940s by legendary boxer Jack Dempsey. Another is that he’s the co-inventor of microwave popcorn on the cob.
