John Perin wrote: Nicoli Volkoff (Steve Gobb) – Met Lou Thesz for the NWA Title at the Cincinnati Gardens on January 27, 1963. This was Thesz’ third match after winning the NWA crown from Buddy Rogers earlier that month. Thesz defeated Volkoff in just 21 seconds. in what was obviously a one-fall match. By the way, the temperature in Cincinnati that Sunday night was close to zero. (As Thesz had a number of matches coming up the next week in Texas – beginning the next night – you might wonder if it was decided to wrap things up quickly).
