Career Highlights

  • November 7, 2008–Jerry Lawler Tribute Show: Jerry “The King” Lawler w/Jim White defeated Sid Vicious (with Jimmy Hart)..
  • January 7, 2010: Jim White passed away after a long battle with cancer..Dave Meltzer wrote (On January 9, 2010): Jim White, a Memphis wrestling star of the 70s, passed away on 1/7 after a long battle with cancer. There will be a viewing tomorrow night from 6-9 p.m. at the Britton Funeral Home in his home city of Manchester, KY, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday. White, best known as Jerry Lawler’s first tag team partner, as Lawler & White, managed by Sam Bass, had a big run that drew huge crowds (some of the best consistent business in the history of the territory) against Jackie Fargo & Jerry Jarrett. I only got to meet White a few times, but White was always a nice guy and he was an Observer subscriber and regular letter writer for I would guess about 25 years.

Mike Aldren wrote (on January 10, 2010): 1970s Memphis wrestler Jim White passed away on Thursday after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 67. I believe he was Jerry Lawler’s first tag partner drawing huge crowds against Jerry Jarrett and Jackie Fargo. After retirement he mentored a number of young people in the business and entertained many with stories of Elvis Presley attending local shows. A funeral service was scheduled for 11am Monday at the Briton Funeral Home in Manchester, KY. Greg Oliver has a nice obituary here. Jerry Lawler on his new website at www.kingjerrylawler.com wrote: “Jim White never really got the recognition he deserved. I know for a fact if it had not been for Jim there would never have been a ‘King’ Jerry Lawler. He had no problem working in the background while I was out front getting most of the attention. It takes a special person to do that and Jim White was that kind of person. I will miss Jim, and I send my sincere condolences to his family who Jim loved dearly.”
