Career Highlights

In The Beginning:

  • Jim Morris first appeared on the wrestling scene in Memphis, wrestling as “Harley Davison” with a biker gimmick.

World Wrestling Federation:

  • Hillbilly Jim first appeared on WWF TV as a planted “Hillbilly Fan” showing off in the front row at shows accross the country.
  • ~~~Vince McMahon “noticed” the big “Hillbilly” and interviewed him and he was allowed to appear on Piper’s Pit w/ Roddy Piper.
  • ~~~Roddy Piper offered to train “Big Jim”, but Jim declined saying he wanted to be trained by the best – Hulk Hogan!
  • ~~~Hillbilly Jim and Hulk Hogan began appearing in weekly vignettes featuring their training session progress.
  • Hillbilly Jim’s wrestling boots were given to him by Hulk Hogan (This was part of a storyline in the WWF).
  • 1985: Hillbilly Jim wrestled his debut match on TV defeating veteren jobber Terry Gibbs.
  • Hillbilly Jim feuded with Don Muraco and Mr Fuji including a famous “Tuxedo Match” against Fuji in MSG.
  • February 18, 1985 – The War to Settle The Score: Hillbilly Jim defeated Rene Goulet.
  • February 1985: While Hulk Hogan was wrestling Brutus Beefcake, Hillbilly Jim started chasing Brutus Beefcake’s manager Johnny V round until he slipped on a wet spot and broke his leg. Hillbilly Jim was taken away on a stretcher and rushed to hospital. Later WWF announced that Hillbilly Jim would be out for around seven months.

World Wrestling Federation – The Hillbilly Family:

  • Hillbilly Jim expanded the Hillbilly Family bringing in Uncle Elmer, Cousin Luke and Cousin Junior.
  • October 3, 1985 – Saturday Night’s Main Event: Uncle Elmer w/Hillbilly Jim defeated Jerry Valiant in SIX seconds.
  • November 1, 1985 – Saturday Night’s Main Event: Cousin Junior, Hillbilly Jim & Uncle Elmer defeated Bob Orton, Jesse Ventura & Roddy Piper in a dark match. Hillbilly Jim and Uncle Elmer and Cousin Junior where guests on Pipers Pit.
  • December 19, 1985 – Saturday Night Main Event: Bob Orton, Jesse Ventura & Roddy Piper defeated The Hillbillies (Cousin Luke, Hillbilly Jim & Uncle Elmer).
  • December 30, 1985 – MSG Network: Tag team champions Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake defeated Hillbilly Jim and Uncle Elmer to retain the titles.
  • January 4, 1986 – Saturday Night Main Event: Roddy Piper, Bob Orton, and Jesse Ventura defeated Hillbilly Jim, Uncle Elmer, and Cousin Luke.
  • April 7, 1986 – WrestleMania II: Hillbilly Jim competed in a Invitational Battle Royal which was won by Andre The Giant.
  • September 6, 1986 – Superstars: Cousin Luke and Hillbilly Jim defeated Pete Doherty and Ron Shaw.
  • September 14, 1986 – Wrestling Challenge: Cousin Luke and Hillbilly Jim defeated Jack Kruger and Joe Mirto.
  • November 9, 1986 – Wrestling Challenge: Billy Jack Haynes and Hillbilly Jim defeated Jimmy Jack Funk and Rick Renslow.
  • November 22, 1986 – Superstars: Johnny V & The Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine) defeated Hillbilly Jim, Pedro Morales & Tito Santana by disqualification.
  • December 7, 1986 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim, Pedro Morales and Tito Santana defeated Barry O, Brian Costello and Iron Mike Sharpe.
  • December 13, 1986 – Superstars: Hillbilly Jim, Pedro Morales and Tito Santana defeated Barry O, Moondog Spot and The Raider.
  • December 21, 1986 – Wrestling Challenge: Billy Jack Haynes, Hillbilly Jim and Pedro Morales defeated Buddy Ryder, Kevin Collins and Tim Patterson.
  • December 26, 1986 – MSG Network: Hillbilly Jim defeated Mr. Fuji.
  • December 27, 1986 – Superstars: Dino Bravo & The Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine) defeat Hillbilly Jim, Pedro Morales & Tito Santana.
  • January 18, 1987 – Wrestling Challenge: Dino Bravo & The Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine) defeated Hillbilly Jim, Pedro Morales & Tito Santana by count-out.
  • February 15, 1987 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim & The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau & Raymond Rougeau) defeated Johnny V & The Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine).

  • May 23, 1987 – Superstars: Hillbilly Jim and Outback Jack defeated Buddy Ryder and Dave Barbie.
  • May 24, 1987 – Wrestling Challenge: Billy Jack Haynes, Hillbilly Jim and Tito Santana defeated Carl Schmidt, Dave Barbie and Terry Gibbs.

  • May 7, 1988 – Superstars: Intercontinental champion The Honky Tonk Man defeated Hillbilly Jim to retain the title.
  • September 10, 1988 – Superstars: Hillbilly Jim and Sam Houston defeated Gene Ligon and George South in a dark match.
  • October 10, 1988 – NESN: King Haku defeated Hillbilly Jim.
  • November 24, 1988 – Survivor Series: Hercules, Hillbilly Jim, Koko B. Ware & The Mega Powers (Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage) defeat Akeem, King Haku, Ted DiBiase, The Big Boss Man & The Red Rooster in a tag team elimination match.
  • June 24, 1989 – Superstars: Hillbilly Jim defeated Butler Stevens.
  • July 16, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim defeated Sandy Beach.
  • August 6, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim defeated Don Champ.
  • October 9, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim defeated Ray Oakley.
  • April 23, 1990 – Saturday Night’s Main Event: Earthquake w/Jimmy Hart defeated Hillbilly Jim.
  • May 27, 1990 – Wrestling Challenge: Hillbilly Jim defeated Pez Whatley in a dark match.
  • June 17, 1990 – Wrestling Challenge: The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine defeated Hillbilly Jim and Randy Falk.
  • June 29-30, 1990 – House Show: Hillbilly Jim defeated The Brooklyn Brawler.
  • July 1, 1990 – House Show: Hillbilly Jim defeated Buddy Rose.
  • July 7-8, 1990 – House Show: Hillbilly Jim defeated Black Bart.
  • Late 1990: WWF released Hillbilly Jim from his contract. Hillbilly Jim later retired from wrestling.
  • April 18, 1991 – House Show: Col. Mustafa defeated Hillbilly Jim.
  • June 5, 26, 1991 – House Show: The Berzerker defeated Hillbilly Jim.

Retirement from the Ring:

  • Hillbilly Jim took some time off and worked in the Coliseum Home Video department of the WWF.
  • Early 1990’s: Hillbilly Jim made a brief return and teamed with Owen Hart in the WWF.
  • Hillbilly Jim still works for WWF’s Video and Media department.
  • April 1, 2001 – WrestleMania: Hillbilly Jim was in the gimmick battle royal won by The Iron Sheik.
  • January 2004: Hillbilly Jim will be sent on the road for meet and greets as part of a WrestleMania promotional team for trivia contests.
  • July 2005: Hillbilly Jim got a radio show playing old rock tunes called “Moonshine Matinee” on Sirius Satellite Radio (Country).
  • October 3, 2005 – WWE Homecoming: Hillbilly Jim participated in a Legends Ceremony which included roughly 24 Legends.
  • February 9, 2006 – Deep South Wrestling: Hillbilly Jim made an appearance and did a brief confrontation angle with Matt Striker.
  • April 6, 2018: Hillbilly Jim was inducted in the 2018 class of WWE Hall Of Fame by Jimmy Hart.
