In The Meantime

  • Chris Jericho (participant) and Goldberg (assistant coach for other team) did a skit during the NHL All-Star hockey game.
  • ~~~Jericho “went insane” in the second period and started beating up the referee and the other team’s goalie.
  • ~~~Bill Goldberg finally went over, picked Chris Jericho up, and carried him back to his bench.
  • April 2002: Bill Goldberg participated in a Celebrity Auto Race but didn’t finish the race due to car problems.
  • ~~~Goldberg got pissed and smashed his arm on the car, breaking his left arm and will wear a cast for 6-8 weeks.
  • ~~~Bill Goldberg continued to collect money from his guaranteed contract from Time/Warner after the sale to Vince McMahon.
  • May 2 2002: Bill Goldberg signed a contract buyout with AOL/Time Warner, making him a free agent.

Japan

  • August 2002: Bill Goldberg went to Japan about possible involvement in various Shoot Fighting and Wrestling organizations.
  • August 12, 2002: PRIDE confirmed that Bill Goldberg would appear and do color commentary for the 8/28 Shockwave event.
  • August 30, 2002: Bill Goldberg made his return to the ring for All Japan Pro Wrestling, his first match since January 2001.
  • ~~~Goldberg only needed four minutes and two seconds to defeat Japanese super star Satoshi Kojima.
  • ~~~Goldberg didn’t use the spear and jackhammer, but rather a flying clothesline for the victory.
  • ~~~Goldberg did still have the same pyro and entrance music.
  • August 31, 2002 – AJPW: Bill Goldberg defeated Taiyo Kea
  • September 1, 2002: Goldberg agreed to work additional dates with All Japan.
  • ~~~The deal was not ‘exclusive’ and allows Goldberg to negotiate with another company.
  • ~~~The deal even allowed him to work for other companies in Japan as well.
  • November 17, 2002 – AJPW: Bill Goldberg defeated Rick Steiner in Yokohama, Japan.
  • December 2002: Bill Goldberg has apparently been approached about a Rock vs Goldberg match at WrestleMania 19.
