WWE Hall Of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, TNA Tag Team Champions The Wolves, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, Matt Cross, Shane Strickland, MCW Champion The Bruiser and 2014 Shamrock Cup Champion Drolix prepare for “Maryland’s Greatest Professional Wrestling Tradition” in less than one week.
Baltimore, MD July 12, 2015- Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) presents its premier event of the year on July 18, 2015; The Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup. This Saturday night will mark the 15th year that MCW has presented this event. Past winners include Christian York (3X), Sami Callihan, “Reckless Youth” Tom Carter. Joey Mercury, Adam Cole, Josh Daniels, Ruckus & Luke Hawx and the reigning & defending 2014 Shamrock Cup Winner Drolix.
Brian Stephen Howser known professionally as Shane Shamrock died tragically in 1998 and at the time was the reigning MCW Light Heavyweight Champion. Shamrock was also one of the core members of the MCW Roster and a close friend to everyone in the company. The decision was made to retire the Light Heavyweight Title and name Shane Shamrock “The Lifetime MCW Light Heavyweight Champion”. The following year The Inaugural Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup was held to honor his memory.
The way that the tournament is structured is that five qualifying matches will take place early in the evening. The winners of those five matches will then meet last years winner Drolix in a 6 way elimination match to crown the Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup Champion. In the tournament’s 15 year history no champion has ever repeated the following year. However Christian York has won the tournament on 3 different occasions in 1998, 2003 and again in 2010.
During this years Shamrock Cup WWE Hall Of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper will host a very special Pipers Pit. Current TNA Tag Team Champions Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards “The Wolves” will be competing in this year’s tournament and The Beautiful People Velvet Sky, Angelina Love and Madison Rayne will compete in a six woman tag team match.
