Released to VOD and DVD on Tuesday, March 7th, “Check Point” stars producer and WWE legend Bill Goldberg alongside Kenny Johnson (“Bates,” “The Shield”), the late Ricky Harris (“Everybody Hates Chris”), William Forsythe (“Boardwalk Empire”) and Fred “The Hammer” Williamson (“From Dusk till Dawn”).
Costars paid tribute to Ricky Harris at the world premiere in Las Vegas, who tragically passed away in December. His final screen performance in “Check Point” is a fitting tribute to this wonderful actor. Kenny Johnson comments: “He was just the coolest guy in the world. He was a guy who wanted to give and I feel blessed I got to be in the last film he did.”
“Check Point”is a Political Action Thriller set and filmed in North Carolina. It follows a local vagrant (Johnson) who discovers a ‘sleeper cell’ home-grown Terrorist plot in a small town where everyone knows each other, or so they thought. With the help of his best friend (Goldberg), he must gather a team of unlikely heroes to rise up to protect their country. In Ricky Harris’ last film role, the late actor played a former U.S. Army veteran who helps foil the plot to attack the U.S. government. The film touches on difficult topics, such as war veterans and PTSD.
The film launched in at the Palladium IMAX Theater in San Antonio, where Bill Goldberg, who is also one of the producers of “Check Point”, will appear at the WWE Royal Rumble.
“Check Point” released to DVD and VOD Tuesday, March 7th, courtesy of Vision Films.
Directed by Thomas J. Churchill, Bill Goldberg and Kenny Johnson produced the film alongside Niko Foster, and Tony Perez, who also penned the script. Tony Perez says: “The idea for the film came from a news report about 2 US airmen who were indicted for attempting to join a terrorist group. It brought up the question of what if; anything of this magnitude could really take place, when our own people turn on one another, what would really happen? This is actually a scary reality today, in light of our election.”
CHECK POINT is a Chasing Butterflies Pictures production with Vision Films handling domestic distribution and international sales. Vision Films’ Managing Director/ CEO, Lise Romanoff says: “Bill Goldberg’s knockout WWE performance highlights his successful return as a worldwide wrestling champion. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for Vision to announce his debut movie role in this ripped-from-the-headlines-edge -of-your-seat thriller, Check Point. Kenny Johnson and Bill Goldberg make a great duo, and Bill is poised to be a breakout action movie star.”
