WWE Diva Summer Rae may have been given the boot from her dance partner Fandango on Twitter, but that hasn’t stopped the leggy blonde from putting her best foot forward.
It was one year ago the diva took her first steps on the main roster after gaining notoriety in NXT, the company’s developmental program.
She has more than held her own against the top established female on the roster, worked her first WrestleMania and joined the second season of “Total Divas”. The former Legends Football League player’s public profile has grown dramatically as a cast member on the popular E! reality show, which follows the lives of WWE personalities inside and outside the ring.
“It’s crazy,” Rae said. “It’s not just wrestling fans now that recognize us and want to get our picture. It’s tons of women. I think most men have said we’ve bridged the gap between their wives, girlfriends and wrestling. It’s really cool because now they don’t have to sneak around and watch Monday Night Raw anymore. Their girlfriends want to watch Raw because of us. It’s very cool to be relationship counselors for people across America.”
Drama seems to follow the new girl on the block in the first few episodes of the season. She didn’t make a great first impression with some of the divas. Rae, real name Danielle Moinet, was accused of flirting with Daniel Bryan by his now wife Brie Bella and let’s not forget her constant clashes with Natalya. The hostility between the two came to ahead when she confronted Natalya at her house. This followed with the slap by Rae in a scene that looked right out of “Dynasty.”
“I think how people view me on the show is going to change throughout the season,” she said. “I think that right now I’ve kind of done some things to rub people the wrong way. I think by the end of the season you are going to see a different side of me.”
Rae has found the whole experience humbling.
“It’s definitely something that is a direct reflection in the mirror when you do a reality show,” she said. “You can see what your flaws are and what you need to work on. I’m definitely seeing it now as episodes are airing. It’s a great thing. I’m just very fortunate to be with these wonderful women, sharing my life to the world.”
On top of her roles as women’s wrestler and reality show star, Rae will be the first diva to be featured prominently in a WWE Studios film. The budding actress joins The Miz in “The Marine 4.”
“Doing the movie is such a huge opportunity I think for all the divas,” Rae said. “We are breaking into WWE Studios, so I’m very fortunate when it comes to that.”
In the hectic and sometimes crazy world of sports entertainment it’s good to have a support system. Rae has found a number of co-workers who have helped her along the way and easing the stress that comes with the job.
