JOPPA, MD – A professional wrestler was knocked unconscious in the ring after a flying kick from famous wrestler, Rey Mysterio Jr. Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, better known as Hijo del Perro Aguayo, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was news that shocked the wrestling community, but it’s not stopping them from getting back in the ring.
“Throw that line up in there,” R.J. Meyer shouted from the center of the ring as he demonstrated a move.
Even through the drills, he says, these wrestlers have to be ready for anything.
“It’s a very dangerous business,” Meyer said. “It’s not for everybody. You gotta have thick skin. You gotta want it. You gotta have some heart, too.”
Meyer. who wrestles as The Bruiser, currently trains future wrestlers at the Maryland Championship Wrestling training center.
“We run them through the ringer. We teach you how to become a professional wrestler,” he explained.
He says news of Perro Aguayo’s death rocked their entire community.
“It was very shocking. It’s scary. To think that something as simple as a drop kick to the back can do something like that,” Meyer said.
