For their popular YouSHOOT series, Sean Oliver and Kayfabe Commentaries actively seek out the most outspoken personalities in the professional wrestling business. They offer them lots of free beer and put them in the hot-seat so they can throw uncensored questions, submitted by the fans, at them for two whole hours! There have been one or two duds over the years, but Kayfabe Commentary usually hits a home run with every DVD they release to the public. I think when KC announced that Sabu would be the subject of their next YouShoot interview, hardcore wrestling fans all over the world got extremely giddy with intense anticipation. Sabu has spent most of his career silent, and it wasn’t until he briefly sold out to the WWE that we actually heard him speak. But now Sabu has no choice but to speak his mind, and fans who have experienced the honesty of his voice know that this interview had the potential to equal the spine-tingling charm of a screaming roller-coaster!
Some of the topics covered during this interview are Extreme Championship Wrestling, Paul Heyman (ECW’s booker), Chris Benoit (who broke Sabu’s neck), Taz (and Barely Legal), Sandman (and Sabu taping up his broken jaw), Raven (never wrestling in ECW), hardcore wrestling, the table breaking gimmick, crazy glue on his cuts, barbed wire, passing the torch, dream match (dead or alive), shooting on Stan Hanson, Big Japan hardcore, indy rings that stink, skiing, Sunny days, rat stories, the drug scene in different federations, legalization of marijuana, double-booking ECW & Japan, heat with Taz, John Cena and the sledgehammer, XPW/Rob Black, the Sheik (a whole chapter), ECW’s 1993 invasion of RAW, working for WCW, memories of Chris Candido, talking for the first time in WWE, getting stooged by Kurt Angle, thoughts on Hulk Hogan, wrestling at WrestleMania 23, trying to get fired by WWE, wrestling as Terry Snuka, Hiyabusa in Japan, Barbed Wire Fire Match in 1992 (watch), problems with the Yakuza (Japanese mafia), Terry Funk’s retirement, the Insane Clown Posse, thoughts on Bill Alfonso, road story about Jamie Dundee, the Iron Sheik, thoughts on 9/11, and a whole lot more interesting stuff.
The answers got more interesting and honest as the cans of beer disappeared. My only complaint is that the questions I submitted were apparently lost in cyberspace and not included in the interview. KC director Sean Oliver has been good about using my contributions in the past, so I know that they must have just gotten lost somewhere. C’est la vie.

One of hardcore wrestling’s founding fathers is breaking his silence, the legendary SABU recently sat down with Kayfabe Commentaries to be part of their popular YouShoot series. Like previous guests the Sandman, Honky Tonk Man and Jamie Dundee; Sabu sits with host Sean Oliver and must answer every email and video question no matter how dumb the person asking the question is. Here’s the topic areas covered in the two hour program: ECW, Hardcore, Sex & Drugs, Heat & Controversy, the Sheik, WWE & WCW, Wrestling, the Boys & Potpourri.
With the exception of being part of Jeremy Borash’s excellent Forever Hardcore documentary and the occasional RF shoot, the character of Sabu never if rarely ever talks so fans are in for an experience. I think this interview is great despite Sabu’s shyness in front of camera which he apologizes for several times. Mr. Oliver and some of Sabu’s friends make his at easy which is a credit to Oliver as a host. In addition to the topics we get to see the YouShoot staple “What’s in the Bag” word association and the inaugural YouShoot Roll-A-Joint championships. Sabu doesn’t hold back on people he despises in the business no matter how high profile the person is right now. Kurt Angle, Mad Man Pondo, John Cena, Johnny Ace, Stephanie McMahon, Dusty Rhodes and Stan Hansen beware when Sabu speaks about you. In addition to questions from the fans we have some professional wrestler video questions for Sabu which are entertaining. The video questions from the fans not so much.
This release is $20 and available through www.KayfabeCommentaries.com where you can also order Ringside with Demolition and Guest Booker Sheepherder Luke who rebooks WWF 1993 into a hardcore promotion.

Content:
Nearly two hours of total honesty by one of the most hardcore wrestlers ever in the world, this latest edition of Kayfabe Commentaries “YouShoot” series is perhaps the best yet. Although, at the beginning, you would think this would not be good, due to the shyness & brief answers, Sabu eventually gets more comfortable & elaborates on more stories than he ever has in the past. And don’t think that Sean Oliver is going to be easy on Sabu (just because he is shy) or will the fans (who chimed in with dozens of questions). Everything will be answered, nervously at first & more confidently later. Sabu’s silence is never broken, but today he will let you inside his world.

What’s On The DVD’s
Listen to Sabu tell stories about breaking into the business under the training of the legendary Sheik. From starting in Detroit & getting involved in FMW, Sabu then will share ECW, WCW, WWE, & TNA stories of all sorts with you. Listen to some great comedic, as well as unfortunate stories, such as the time he was about to sign a WCW contract, but his mom has a heart attack before he could tell her. Why is Kurt Angle a stooge? You want to know if those Tammy Sytch stories are true or not? Why did he hate Chris Benoit? How crazy glue for wounds was invented, sex, drugs, pills, & weed-rolling, this shoot has some crazy stuff that only the bravest can answer to in the process. Sabu breaks his silence…anddoes it well.
****
The Verdict:
Perhaps the best interview yet in the Kayfabe Commentaries series. Sabu never has opened up like this before, and due to the comfortable style of the interviewer here, Sabu treats us to some unbelievable stories that you will never hear from anyone else.

Overall Recommendation:
If you like shoot interviews, buy this DVD. Better than most out there, and Sabu is a great & funny guest.

Final Thoughts:
Sean Oliver continues to take this concept and still create more & more ideas within. We’ve seen Sean pull out the bag of gimmicks before to get names in the past or use his bulletin board to associate names with things, but now the latest creation is the “YouShoot Roll-A-Joint Championship.” There is always something crazy & fun going on when Kayfabe Commentaries has a new video release.
Overall Rating: 9.4
