ECWA is widely known for its Super 8 Tournament where the top independent stars have showcased their talents yearly since 1997! Most of our participants have gone on to great heights in the WWE, TNA, and around the globe! So one wonders why it took so long for the women of independent wrestling to find a similar showcase. So ECWA and Chickfight management partnered together to think of a revolutionary new idea… an all-women’s Super 8 Tournament! Finally, the most beautiful, talented, and deadly women on the independent scene will have an arena to show off their wrestling talents! And what makes this tournament even more special is the fact not only do they get the prestige of winning the first ever ECWA Women’s Super 8 but they also win the now vacant ECWA Woman’s Championship! How’s that for making history?
It’s sure to be a night to create an important part of professional wrestling for years to come! In this article series we want to showcase the women of the Super 8 so you can learn about what made them choices to be participants by the management teams of ECWA and Chickfight. Today we’ll take a look at 4 of the field’s stars and their careers up to this point. Trust me when I say this… wrestling will never know what hit it once this tournament comes at you on Saturday October 11, 2014!
Here’s a look at 4 of this year’s participants:
Annie Social– Social’s rise to the top of women’s independent wrestling almost didn’t happen. Discovered by chance at a bar in 2003 she quickly began her training at PWU’s Animal House under ECW alum’s Gary Wolfe, current ECWA referee Mike Kehner, and the late Trent Acid. Traveling all over the East Coast wrestling in places like Absolute Intense Wrestling, WSU, and Shimmer Annie Social has become known for her quiet brutality racking up numerous accomplishments. She was part of the first ever WSU Tag Team Champions along with Roxie Cotton. She had an impressive undefeated streak in Shimmer even gaining a championship match against current WWE trainer and Indy legend Sara Del Ray. Annie Social might be the most experienced woman in this tournament and she’s certainly to be an early favorite.
Chasity Ann Taylor- Chasity began training at a very young age. Her training started at age 14 and by age 18 she was already ring announcing and being the host for events for Shimmer and Shine. Coming out of the CWF- Mid Atlantic dojo she’s become known as the ‘Southern Sweetheart’ because of her sweet temperament and beautiful looks. But anyone that has been in the ring with her can tell you different. Traveling around to different promotions like CWF- Mid Atlantic, VOW, and PWF she’s proved she’s a feisty competitor not willing to give up so easily. She even had a WWE trout match at the young age of 19! What she lacks in experience she makes up with charisma and a surprising bad temper that often takes her opponents by surprise. Chasity could very well sneak her way to a victory in the tournament because she’ll be underestimated. That’s just fine for her as she looks to prove all the doubters wrong!
Tessa Blanchard– Tessa’s wrestling pedigree is unmatched in this tournament and perhaps even the world of women’s wrestling. The daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and Four Horsemen member Tully Blanchard, Tessa got her start ring announcing and modeling. Only being pro for the last 8-9 months, she’s less experienced than everyone else in the field of 8 but being trained by her father Tully Blanchard, Magnum T.A., and George South she’s already on a path to success. She’s even recently won the EWA Women’s Championship. She has a personal investment in this tournament as well; she and Chasity Taylor have had problems in the past. But with success in companies like PWX, UCW, and SWA, she’s had her fair share of haters. Regardless of that, Tessa has a famous name to live up to and she’s made it her mission to walk into the ECWA Women’s Super 8 and come out champion. To all the doubters who say she’s all beauty and no brawn, Tessa Blanchard will be all business and ready to fight.
Jenny Rose– By far the biggest star in this tournament, Jenny Rose has literally traveled the globe perfecting her craft. Training out of the ROH Dojo here in the USA and out of the Pro Wrestling Diana Dojo in Japan, she’s made a name for herself with her superior wrestling skill. Spending most of her career lately in Japan, she’s learned the complex strong style from numerous opponents overseas. Back here in America, she’s wrestled for places like WSU, Shimmer every step of the way flying around the ring like her Japanese trainers. Known for shocking everyone with her trademark speed, she wants to walk into the tournament and win adding the victory to her already long list of accomplishments. She just might be the deadliest competitor in the Super 8 and will be one to watch for sure.
And there you have it, your first look at the ladies of the all-women’s ECWA Super 8 Tournament! Another article will be released soon with a look at remaining 4 women. ECWA and Chickfight are excited to bring you this one of a kind tournament that make pro wrestling history!
