WRESTLING COLUMNS

Remembering 2003 and Looking to 2004
December 20, 2003 by Phil Haller

Greetings Wrestling Fan This Week I would like to talk about what 2004 has in store for the wrestling world and I would also like to present my own unofficial 2003 wrestling awards I would also like to give my opinions on some columns on this site I read about. First of all The Infamous Teddy Hart hatred from Mark Rose. Well to be honest I cant stand Teddy Hart as I mentioned in my last column he is very overrated just because he is hart and I know what the WWE marks think that because he is a Hart he cant do no wrong. Well the WWE marks piss me off more than anything as they are only interested in WWE and are scared if you will to watch other promotions. Well Teddy Hart is a little trouble causing punk who thinks he is the greatest wrestler alive I mean honestly I know workers have egos but this guy's ego is ridiculous and why does he have an ego. What has he done to even have an ego" Yeah he appeared on TNA but so have people such as Cheeks, Scott Hall and even Mad Man Pondo on Xplosion. Teddy Hart is not a good fighter he as an average worker there are so many people in the business with that same style but can do it ten times better. So Mr. Rose I agree with everything you say about Hart.

Ok Here is my 2003 Wrestling Awards.

Wrestler of the Year: AJ Styles. AJ Styles proved this year that he could make a great world champion. When I first heard he won the title I thought it was a bad idea but then I realized this guy had superior star power and more talent than you can shake a stick at. He has been a true fighting champion defending his title in loads of Indies even extremely small ones some one step above backyard and I admire this as most workers who win the big one wouldn't consider working for other promotions as they think they are better than that but AJ didn't care he defended that title all over the country because he loves to wrestle and doesn't care whether it is in front of millions of viewers or a handful of fans.

Tag Team Of The Year: America's Most Wanted they have that old school traditional wrestling tag team feel around them and when I first watched the 2 I just thought another 2 boring brawlers but bloody hell I was wrong these guys have it all speed, technique and power. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of competition in the tag team divisions this year, which is a damn shame. One team I am telling you to watch out for in 2004 is the Naturals Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens this team kick ass if anybody has had chance to check out the 55th NWA Anniversary show will know what iam talking about but this year The Cowboy and The Wildcat win the tag team of the year award.

Japanese Worker Of The Year: Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Tenzan has always being one of my favorites since I began watching Puroresu. I was starting to feel sorry for Tenzan and think he would never get his big break. He was somewhat of a Japanese Chris Benoit as he was extremely talented but was kept down but he finally got his chance and became the IWGP Champion, which in my eyes is the 2nd most meaningful title in the world. There was some good competition for Tenzan as Ohtani, Kojima, Kawada, Takayama and Akiyama almost won this award with their fantastic work but Tenzan just happened to be that little bit better and I hope he will have many more title reigns before he's done.

Feud of The Year: This is a tough one and Raven has been in all of them pretty much but I have to pick Raven Vs CM Punk. Who ever is a huge Indy fan and loves a good sold bloodbath these two had the best matches of the year. They took the matches around the country and every promoter was booking a CM Punk VS Raven match. They have had some crazy matches with each match being that little bit different and more special they had Raven Rules Street Fights, Dog Collar Matches, Cage Matches even strange new matches like The Straight Edge rules match and the Clock Work Orange House Of Fun. Yeah these 2 win feud of the year as it reminded me that you don't need light bulbs, glass, thumbtacks, barbwire to have a brutal violent match this feud remind me of the matches featuring my idols The Sheik, Bruiser Brody, The Funks and Abdullah The Butcher the matches were so bloody but yet so great to watch you would feel that you were watching something unique and special.

Female Worker Of the Year: LuFisto. For those WWE Marks who wont know of Lufisto let me tell you about her. Lufisto or Precious Lucy as she is often called is absolutely fantastic in the ring she doesn't wrestle women she wrestles men. The thing I find unbelievable about this girl is she takes part in extreme bloody death matches featuring barbwire and glass light bulbs and she is still absolutely stunning. For those people who think Trish Stratus is the best female worker around I just want to laugh as Trish Stratus is a valet turned wrestler and if she didn't have her great looks she would not be wrestling. Lufisto is fantastic in the ring and fits in with the Japanese women wrestlers who are not just some stupid bimbos who are worried about getting hurt or breaking a nail she takes it seriously and if any US Promotions have brains you will be seeing her a lot in the future.

Manager Of The Year: Father James Mitchell of course is without a doubt the greatest manager alive he is evil and very scary. He reminds me of the old Abdullah Farouk as he is the brains behind psycho workers and is even more sadistic than his clients. The men has a unique satanic look and I have to admit he does scare me sometimes and in my eyes that means he's doing a great job. The guy thrives off of pain he is not one of those slippery cowardly heel managers like Jimmy Hart, Mortimer Plum tree he often gets in the thick of the matches. He throws fire like his and my personal inspiration the Original Sheik and he even scalped Raven! This guy is insane I just hope and plead that he does not do what is rumored and jump ship to the WWE.

Fighting Spirit Award. Samoa Joe is the most intense fighter around and he is huge but can back it up unlike several lumps like The Big Show etc. Samoa Joe has that fighting spirit that makes him so dangerous and so great to watch in the ring he gives it is all every time he's in there and he doesn't need cheesy gimmicks, bad angles and exciting mic skills as fighting spirit is always about letting his in ring work tell the story and do the talking. I expect big things for this guy in 2004 because I have noticed there is a huge shortage of Good Independent Heavyweights because these days it is all about the junior weights. I love watching this guys work with his Chimera Suplex, which is a hooking multiple dragon suplex followed by a vicious German suplex. I love his submission holds and his roughness he reminds me of a young (but more talented) Taz. I have spoken to Joe and he states that there is a huge chance we will be seeing him in NWATNA next year and I hope TNA uses him right as they can go either way with this guy bring him in as a top dangerous monster heel maybe part of Callis' stable or bring him in as a top baby face.

Special Award: Christopher Daniels. He is without a doubt the most talented guy out there and is a veteran and has been on the Indy scene along long time and has not slowed down at all. He didn't get Wrestler of the Year as I think AJ deserved it but I thought he needed an award and this award is for keeping up his great in ring work and being the best damn wrestler in the country in fact probably the world.

Rookie Of The Year: Sonjay Dutt. Yes Dutt was around last year but this year in my eyes was his official freshman year as he had a great load of exposure and got to work in the big leagues such as NWATNA and MLW. Dutt is amazing as he does moves I have never seen before and is very innovative, athletic and charismatic yes the Real Playa From Himalayas is Rookie Of The Year. Dutt is an X Division stand out and I hope he gets the title either this month or if not next year. When I first saw this guy in CZW last year I didn't really pay attention to him which I should of done but then I watched the Dutt match properly and realized just how good he actually was he reminds me of a young Hayabusa and I hope he doesn't end is career the same way by taking his crazy risks.

Well those are my awards anybody want to question my opinion please email me at philscheese@hotmail.com. Ok onto my next topic 2004 in the wrestling world.

Ok well Next Year I think will be an action packed year in the wrestling world. MLW have signed some great workers to appear in several date of 2004. AJPW will be working with ROH and NWATNA will be having the huge PPV. I want everybody to watch out for Samoa Joe, Sonjay Dutt, Shocker, Slim J, and Los Guerreros Del Infierno as I think 2004 is their year. I also see the NWA taking over the number 1 spot in the wrestling world like they once did. I also predict Raven to be the biggest name out there next year. Jeff Jarrett will be like Flair, And Abyss will be the monster heel of the business. America's Most Wanted Vs The Naturals in scaffold matches like the Rock N Roll Express Vs Midnight Express, as these 2 teams are the future biggest tag teams in the world.

Ok Thanks for reading remember Contact me at philscheese@hotmail.com and remember Tradition Rules and Sports Entertainment SUCKS!
