On Tuesday August 14th American Combat Wrestling held a one night tournament to crown a new ACW Heavyweight champion. The event was held at Bourbon Street Night Club, 4331 US 19N in New Port Richey, FL.
The evening was opened by former ACW Heavyweight champion “Rough House†Ralph Mosca who surrendered the title belt for the tournament. He also said he would be back to reclaim the title. Ralph wanted to mention Dany Only will be having his final ACW match tonight as his military outfit is being shipped out to Iraq.
(1) Dany Only defeated Nooie Lee.
Before the match the two men had a mist spraying contest with no clear cut winner. Lee wanted a test of strength but needed to get on the second corner rope to reach Only’s hands. Only pulled him down but released the hold. Only got on his knees wanting another try but Lee put on a side headlock. Only didn’t get off his knees as he hit Lee with several moves. Lee bailed to the floor and Only walked into a mist spray of water but Lee walked into a blue mist to the face. Somehow Only injured his chest and bailed to the floor for some free beer curls. When he came back in Lee went on the attack with a kick to the gut and a spinning neckbreaker for two. Lee kicked Only’s ribs but Only fired back with a kick to the head in the corner. Only hit a fallaway slam and a legdrop but got two. Only went for a move but Lee hit a leg lariat for two as Only got his leg on the bottom rope. Lee returned the gesture with a questionable low blow and two kicks to the back of Only’s head. But when Lee went for the Five Star he met canvas instead of Only. Both men got to their feet but Only dropkicked Lee to the floor. Both men traded punches and barely beat the referee’s count. Both men fought over control and Lee hit an STO for two. He went for the Dragon Bomb but Only countered into a Rock Bottom like move to win. After the match Lee wanted the fan’s attention to thank Only for being part of the armed services and everything he has done in ACW. Only took some time to thank the fans and the locker room for allowing him to be part of ACW.
In the opening round of the six men ACW Heavyweight title tournament:
(2) “South Florida Phenom†Scott Commodity defeated “the 8th Deadly Sin†Sideshow.
Before the match Commodity took a moment to talk to the “idiots of ACW†about tonight not being of Dany Only, it was about his shot at championship gold. Sideshow did his talking in the ring going hold for hold with Commodity. Commodity bailed to the floor and Sideshow tried to bring him in by the spiked hair. Commodity came in on his own but got dropkicked to the corner and taken into a Sideshow side headlock. Commodity tried to counter out but Sideshow refused to release the hold even as Commodity climbed on the ropes. Sideshow released the hold and Commodity went face down on the canvas. Nothing went Commodity’s way as he got caught by a POUNCE from Sideshow. Commodity bailed to the floor and as Sideshow went to grab him, Commodity pulled him down onto the ring apron chin first. Commodity went right to work on the neck on the floor and in the ring, using his boot and the ropes to choke out Sideshow. Commodity went for a corner move but got caught in the Backiotimy. But Commodity sprung to his feet and hit an RKO for two. Commodity thought he won and had a heated exchange with referee Billy Dalton. Commodity seemed to get focus back on Sideshow but was countered into a rolling neckbreaker that Sideshow couldn’t follow up on quickly. Both men fought to their feet but it was Sideshow who was the aggressor with a series of moves but Commodity got his arm under the ropes after being hit with a swinging backbreaker. Commodity went for a piledriver but Sideshow countered into Double Penetration. But Commodity got an arm free and hit a low blow, sliding off into a double leg pin.
(3) Shan Hill defeated “the Shooter†Vordell Walker.
This match started with mat wrestling moves, mostly with Hill taking Walker’s left arm in a hammerlock. Walker countered out to a standing position and chest slapping which became face slaps. Neither man knocked over the other on shoulder tackles but Walker got a belly to belly suplex and some chest chops, only to be reversed by Hill and some chops of his own. Hill hit a hip toss that only got Walker pissed off as he traded forearms shots but Hill got his own belly to belly suplex and an armbar takeover. Hill went back to the left arm with a hammerlock but released the hold to inflict pain with kicks to Walker’s face. Walker got control back with a series of suplexes, plus he threw Hill into the corner buckles chest first. Walker went back to the chest chops but Hill countered a move and drove his knees into Walker’s chest for two. Walker fought back with punches to the ribs but ran into an elbow and a Hill second corner bodyblock for two. Both men went to the floor where they sent people running out of their chairs as Walker was sent flying into them by Hill. Hill dragged Walker back to the ring but Walker hit a slam and went up but missed a top rope move as Hill met him on top. The two men came off with Hill hitting a back suplex but not being able to cover Walker. Both men got to their feet but it was Hill who hit a powerslam for two and a half. Hill drove Walker to a corner and refused to let Walker out, even shoving the referee. Walker got a double leg but the referee saw his feet on the ropes. Walker hit a sideslam backbreaker and a STO but Hill kicked out. Both men fought for control of a suplex but it was Hill who hit a double chicken wing suplex to advance to face David Mercury.
Being the top 2 contenders to the heavyweight title, “The G.O.A.T†David Mercury of the New Movement and “The Marquee†Bruce Santee will receive opening round byes.
(4) “The Marquee†Bruce Santee defeated “South Florida Phenom†Scott Commodity.
Both men did some jawboxing on the mic before the bout and Santee shoved Commodity hard enough to send him to the floor. Commodity got his wits together and re-entered the ring but went back to the floor after Santee tried to pound his chest into the corner buckle. Commodity wanted to make nice with a handshake but a cheap shot kick was caught Santee who sent Commodity to the floor with a clothesline and followed out. Santee slammed Commodity’s face into the bar and dragged him back to the ring where Commodity was slammed off the top rope for two. Santee was relentless in his attack even getting in some punches but Commodity slid out and took Santee’s legs out from under him, sending Santee’s head to the mat. Commodity went to work on Santee’s leg with a Dragon Screw into a leg move. Commodity kept the pressure on the left leg with a half crab. Santee got out into a side headlock, hitting a Samoan Drop but missed his senton. Commodity went back to work on the leg but he injured himself when he missed a top rope splash. Santee go up on his one good leg and fought with all he had left. But Commodity countered out of a TKO into an RKO getting two. Santee ran into a boot and Commodity went up, but his cross bodyblock became Santee’s Big Dump to get him to the semi-finals. After the match Commodity clipped Santee’s already injured leg and slammed it against the ring apron. It appeared to do severe damage to the knee.
(5) “The G.O.A.T†David Mercury of the New Movement (w/George Martel) defeated Shan Hill.
Hill decided to go mat wrestling with the former amateur champion and didn’t fair well, nearly getting pinned in an armbar press. Hill took Mercury back to the mat with an Americana armbar into a tow count but Mercury slid to the floor to confer with Martel. Things didn’t go well when Mercury came back and Hill clotheslined Mercury to the floor where the forearms met flesh. Hill sent Mercury into the ring but Mercury sent Hill face first into the corner. As Mercury talked to referee Billy Dalton it looked like Martel opened a bottle and rubbed something into Hill’s face. Mercury went for a chinlock submission but Hill refused to quit so Mercury released the hold to do more damage to Hill’s head, with some help as Martel choked Hill on the ropes. Mercury went for a reverse chinlock victory but Hill fought out only to be hit with a flying forearm for two. Mercury kept on the attack with punches to the jaw and a sleeper hold which should have put Hill away. However Hill fought out of the hold and hit three German suplexes but was too weak to make a pin attempt. Both men struggled to their feet where Mercury’s superkick met Billy Dalton instead of Sean Hill. Hill hit a spinebuster but Dalton was unable to count the pin. Mercury got to his feet and forced Hill to the corner where Martel used the same liquid to render Hill incoherent. When the referee came around all he saw was Mercury with Hill in an STF and called for the bell.
The ACW Tag team champions Delta Iota Kappa (“Candizzle Dream†Joshua Masters and Sedrick Strong w/Fetish) made their way to the ring. Strong was irate at the fans treatment upon their arrival and demanded their opponents hit the ring. Strong said DIK was all about charity work and the following match was going to be a cakewalk.
(6) In quite possibly the biggest upset in ACW history, Cujo & Shayne Swift became ACW Tag Team champions when they defeated Delta Iota Kappa (“Candizzle Dream†Joshua Masters and Sedrick Strong w/Fetish) when Strong went to take of his shirt and he gave himself a DDT and Swift made the cover.
The new champions said they were so excited by the victory they would take on anyone right here and now. That challenge was answered by George Martel of the New Movement. Martel said he wanted to offer congratulations to the new champions and he was going to use his number one contender spot he won several months back to allow Eddie Taurus and Austin Amadeus to use it. The new champs decided to accept the match and here we go.
(7) Eddie Taurus and Austin Amadeus of the New Movement (w/George Martel) became ACW Tag Team champions when they defeated Cujo & Shayne Swift.
Swift went right on the attack but got slammed to the mat by Taurus and he was isolated from Cujo by the Movement for what seemed like an hour. But no matter what the Movement hit Swift with it didn’t bring them a pin or submission. Swift was able to tag in Cujo but he walked into a Taurus forearm shot. Cujo fought back and tagged out to Swift but Swift walked into a Taurus superkick which got two. Amadeus picked up Swift and Taurus finished him off with a top rope move which stunned the crowd into momentary silence.
“The G.O.A.T†David Mercury of the New Movement and George Martel made their way to the ring for the main event but “Rough House†Ralph Mosca came into the ring, telling the fans medics checked on “The Marquee†Bruce Santee and his knee was injured so bad he cannot compete. But just as Mosca was awarding the title belt to Mercury, Santee made his way to the stage with a severe limp and a wrap on the injured spot. Santee said he was not going to allow someone be awarded a belt by forfeit when he can compete on one bum leg. He told Mercury to win the belt he would have to “the Marquee†in the middle of the ring.
(8) In the finals “The G.O.A.T†David Mercury of the New Movement defeated “The Marquee†Bruce Santee to become ACW Heavyweight champion.Â
Mercury got in the ring and went right for a legsweep but missed Santee on two tries. Mercury bailed out for a moment to confer with Martel and when he came back in, Santee backed Mercury to a corner but had to break clean. Santee got a waistlock take over but Mercury countered out into a hammerlock but Santee backed Mercury to a corner for another clean break. Santee got another take down to the mat and went for a front face lock into a pin for two and got several other pin attempts which took Mercury completely off his game plan. The two men locked in a test of strength which Santee controlled but Mercury bridged his way up. So Santee broke the hold and drove Mercury’s face into all three corner buckles before sending Mercury to the floor once more. Santee grabbed Mercury and hit several chops but when Mercury fell to the mat he kicked Santee’s injured leg out from under him. Santee got to his feet and hit a clothesline but his leg gave out on a standing suplex and Mercury got two. Mercury went to pickup Santee but got caught with a rolling cradle for two. Mercury quickly got to his feet before Santee and got a rolling cradle of his own to get the pin and the belt which gave the New Movement nearly total control of ACW.
After the match Santee got to his feet and told Mercury he better be satisfied with the win because it didn’t do much to improve the New Movement’s record against him. Santee felt Scott Commodity was the reason he lost the title. Santee challenged Commodity to a match on September 15th at the Jewish Community Center. Commodity left his position at the bar to get in Santee’s face but he was sent to the floor after some right hand punches to the head.
