Career Highlights

In The Beginning:

  • At the age of 15, Ted’s stepfather “Iron” Mike DiBiase died of a heart attack while in the ring while working near Amarillo.
  • Ted DiBiase’s mother, Helen Hild, fell into depression and alcoholism, and Ted moved to Arizona to live with his grandparents.
  • Ted DiBiase graduated High School and went to West Texas State University on a football scholarship.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase credits the Funks with helping to give him the push he needed to succeed in life.

Oklahoma:

  • Ted DiBiase eventually dropped out of school and went into wrestling, starting on the Oklahoma circuit.
  • Ted DiBiase’s first big match came against Killer Karl Kox, a match Ted won that started him on his way to notoriety.
  • Ted DiBiase also had some classic matches early on with Dick Murdoch and Greg Valentine.

Japan:

  • Ted DiBiase made his way to Japan where he encountered such legends as Jumbo Tsuruta, Giant Baba, Tank Patton and Wolfman.

Central States:

  • Ted DiBiase returned to the United States and won the Central States Heavyweight title from Sgt. Slaughter.
  • Ted DiBiase would add the Western Tag Team Championship teaming with Irvin Smith.
  • Ted DiBiase won the Missouri title from Dick Murdoch.

Mid-South:

  • Ted DiBiase moved onto the Mid-South region, where his star really began to shine.
  • April 28, 1976: Ted DiBiase teamed with Dick Murdoch to win the NWA United States (Tri-State) tag title.
  • December 1976: Ted DiBiase won the Mid South’s version of the North American title from the Spoiler.
  • Ted DiBiase was given a title shot at Harley Race’s National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) world title.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase put up a great showing before the match was halted due to a throat injury suffered by DiBiase.
  • Spring 1979: Ted DiBiase defeated the legendary Fritz Von Erich to win the North American Heavyweight Championship.

World Wide Wrestling Federation:

  • Ted DiBiase entered the World Wide Wrestling Federation and brought the North American title belt with him.
  • Ted DiBiase was quickly acknowledged as the first WWF North American champion.
  • Ted DiBiase did battle against some all-star talent such as Pat Patterson, Hussein Arab (Iron Sheik), Bulldog Brower and others.
  • June 19, 1979: Ted DiBiase lost the title to Pat Patterson, and the title was renamed to Intercontinental title.
  • Ted DiBiase formed brief tag teams with Tito Santana and Andre The Giant.
  • Ted DiBiase was Hulk Hogan’s opponent in Hogan’s first ever Madison Square Garden appearance.

Back in Mid-South / UWF:

  • 1980: Ted DiBiase left the WWF and returned to Mid-South, which eventually became part of the NWA.
  • February 1, 1980: Ted DiBiase won the North American title by defeating Mike George in Shreveport, Louisiana.
  • 1980-1987: Ted DiBiase won this title four more times, making him a five-time North American Heavyweight champion.
  • October 27, 1982: The Rat Pack (Ted DiBiase and Matt Borne) beat Junk Yard Dog and Mr. Olympia to win the Mid-South Tag team titles.
  • October 1983: Ted DiBiase won the NWA National title after winning a 12-man tournament when Jerry Lawler forfeited in the finals.
  • Ted DiBiase would win the belts on three other occasions; once with Hercules Hernandez and twice with “Dr. Death” Steve Williams.
  • Ted DiBiase and Dr Death in particular were an incredible tag team that dominated the Mid South territory.
  • Ted DiBiase and Dr Death became first ever UWF tag champions after the Mid South titles were renamed.
  • Mid-South was lacking in heels, so DiBiase approached bookers Bill Watts and Ernie Ladd about turning heel.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase eventually turned on long time babyface partner Junk Yard Dog!
  • November 1985: Ted DiBiase once again became a face after an NWA title shot against “Nature Boy” Ric Flair.
  • ~~~The match was interrupted by the hated Dick Murdoch who felt he deserved the title shot and beat up DiBiase in the process.

World Wrestling Federation – The Million Dollar Man:

  • Ted DiBiase was at home when Vince McMahon contacted him about the “Million Dollar Man” gimmick.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase loved the idea and took McMahon up on his offer and rejoined the World Wrestling Federation.
  • Late 1987: Ted DiBiase debuted in the WWF and quickly became the companys top heel with his bodyguard, Virgil.
  • Ted DiBiase would come out on a weekly basis and prove that “Every Man Has His Price” by humiliating fans.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase would fans from the crowd and making them do embarassing things for $100-$500 dollars.
  • ~~~One fan that DiBiase humiliated was a young man named Rob Szatowski, who a decade later would wrestle as Rob Van Dam.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase challenged a kid to bounce a ball 10 times for $100 but kicked the ball on the 9th bounce.
  • 1988: The Million Dollar Man set his eyes on the WWF Heavyweight title, and current champion Hulk Hogan.
  • 1988: Ted DiBiase could not defeat The Hulkster for the championship, so he blantantly offered to purchase the belt from Hulk.
  • ~~~Hulk Hogan refused to sell out to the Million Dollar Man, so DiBiase enlisted Andre the Giant to help him.
  • January 24, 1988 – Royal Rumble: Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant had a contract signing under the watchful eye of Ted DiBiase.
  • ~~~After the ink was dry, Andre The Giant claimed that he would beat Hogan for the title and deliver it to the Million Dollar Man!
  • February 5, 1988 – The Main Event: Andre defeated Hulk Hogan in one of the most controversial title changes in wrestling history.
  • ~~~A Dave Hebner look-a-like (actually twin brother Earl Hebner) was bought off by Ted DiBiase and cheated to give Andre the win.
  • ~~~The Giant did exactly what he said he would and immediately delivered the championship belt to Ted DiBiase.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase’s bogus title reign would be short-lived, as WWF President Jack Tunney stripped him and ordered a Tournament.
  • March 12, 1988 – SNME: “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase defeated Randy “Macho Man” Savage by Count Out.
  • March 27, 1988 – WrestleMania IV: Ted DiBiase defeated Jim Duggan (1st), Don Muraco (2nd), and receiving a bye to the finals.
  • ~~~Randy Savage w/Elizabeth defeated Ted DiBiase w/Andre and Virgil in the Finals with help from Hulk Hogan!!!
  • April 30, 1988 – SNME: “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase defeated “The Rock” Don Muraco.
  • May 7, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Bill Wood.
  • June 4, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Buck Zumhofe.
  • June 12, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Brady Boone.
  • June 25, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Lanny Poffo.
  • July 3, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated SD Jones.
  • July 16, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Larry Stephens.
  • July 31, 1988 – WrestleFest: Randy “Macho Man” Savage defeated Ted DiBiase to retain the Heavyweight title.
  • August 6, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Mike Richards.
  • August 14, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated JT Thomas.
  • August 20, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Jim Brunzell in a dark match.
  • August 29, 1988 – SummerSlam: Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan defeated Ted DiBiase and Andre The Giant with Jesse Ventura as referee!
  • September 4, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated David Stoudemire.
  • September 17, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated John Latu.
  • September 25, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Tommy Angel.
  • October 16, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated David Isley.
  • October 16, 1988 – King of the Ring: Ted DiBiase won the annual King of the Ring Tournament (not an official PPV).  Ted DiBiase defeated Brutus Beefcake in the 1st round. Ted DiBiase defeated Ken Patera in the quarter-finals. Ted DiBiase defeated Randy Savage by count-out to win the King Of The Ring tournament.
  • November 13, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Mario Mancini.
  • November 19, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Scott Hudson.
  • November 24, 1988 – Survivor Series: Hercules, Hillbilly Jim, Koko B. Ware & The Mega Powers (Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage) defeated Akeem, King Haku, Ted DiBiase, The Big Boss Man & The Red Rooster in a tag team elimination match.
  • November 26, 1988 – MSG Network: Ted DiBiase defeated Hercules.
  • December 10, 1988 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Lanny Poffo.
  • December 18, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Tim Horner.
  • December 25, 1988 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Tom Magee in a dark match.
  • January 7, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Scott Casey.
  • January 15, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Joe Cruz.
  • January 15, 1989 – Royal Rumble: Ted DiBiase managed to purchase the #30th spot, but was eliminated in the end by Big John Studd!
  • Ted DiBiase tried to buy the contract of Hercules from Bobby “The Brain” Heenan so he could use him as his personal slave.
  • ~~~Hercules however did not appreciate this and fired Heenan as his manager and started a feud with Ted DiBiase.
  • February 3, 1989 – Main Event: “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase defeated “The Mighty” Hercules.
  • February 4, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Sam Houston.
  • March 11, 1989 – SNME: “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase defeated The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart).
  • April 2, 1989 – WrestleMania 5: Ted DiBiase w/Virgil vs Brutus Beefcake ended up as a Double Count-Out.

World Wrestling Federation – The Million Dollar Champion:

  • Ted DiBiase gave up and decided to create his own title, naming it the Million Dollar Championship.
  • ~~~DiBiase purchased a diamond infested championship belt which he wore to the ring.
  • March 25, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Tim Horner.
  • April 23, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Cougar Jay.
  • April 24, 1989 – MSG Network: Jake Roberts defeated Ted DiBiase.
  • May 21, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Jim Powers.
  • May 27, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Scott Colton.
  • June 11, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated JT Thomas.

  • November 23, 1989 – Survivor Series: The Hulkamaniacs (Ax, Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts & Smash) defeated The Million Dollar Team (Ted DiBiase, The Barbarian, The Warlord & Zeus) in a tag team elimination match.
  • December 2, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Mark Regan.
  • December 10, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Scott Colton.
  • December 16, 1989 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Reno Riggins.
  • December 28, 1989 – MSG Network: Jake Roberts defeated Ted DiBiase in a no disqualification match.
  • December 31, 1989 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Jerry Monti.
  • January 13, 1990 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Dale Wolfe.

  • January 21, 1990 – Royal Rumble: Ted DiBiase actually drew #1 and lasted 45 minutes before being eliminated by Ultimate Warrior.
  • February 3, 1990 – Superstars: Jake Roberts defeated Ted DiBiase by disqualification.
  • 1990: Ted DiBiase began feuding with Jake “The Snake” Roberts after the Snake stole the Million Dollar belt.
  • February 24, 1990 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Jim Evans.
  • March 4, 1990 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Steve Gatorwolf.
  • March 17, 1990 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Pez Whatley.
  • March 25, 1990 – Prime Time Wrestling: Ted DiBiase w/Virgil defeated Red Rooster by submission.
  • April 1, 1990 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Omar Atlas.

  • October 30, 1990 – SNME: The Ultimate Warrior defeated Ted DiBiase by DQ to retain the WWF Heavyweight title.
  • November 3, 1990 – Superstars: Dustin Rhodes defeated Ted DiBiase in a 10 minutes challenge match.
  • November 17, 1990 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Dusty Rhodes in a dark match.
  • November 18, 1990 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Koko B. Ware.
  • November 22, 1990 – Survivor Series: Ted introduced the Undertaker as a member of his team to take on Dusty’s Team.Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior & Tito Santana defeated Hercules, Paul Roma, Rick Martel, Ted DiBiase & The Warlord in a handicap tag team elimination match. The Million Dollar Team (Greg Valentine, Ted DiBiase, The Honky Tonk Man & The Undertaker) defeated The Dream Team (Bret Hart, Dusty Rhodes, Jim Neidhart & Koko B. Ware) in a tag team elimination match.
  • November 24, 1990 – MSG Network: Ted DiBiase & Virgil defeated Dustin Rhodes & Dusty Rhodes.
  • December 1, 1990 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Jim Evans.
  • January 12, 1991 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Danny Brazil.
  • January 19, 1991 – Royal Rumble: Ted DiBiase and Virgil defeated Dusty and Dustin Rhodes in a tag team match.
  • ~~~After the match, DiBiase was especially mean towards Virgil and ordered him to put the million dollar belt around his waist.
  • ~~~Virgil dropped the belt, but then picked it on DiBiase’s orders, but instead whacked DiBiase accross the forehead with it!!!

  • February 9, 1991 – Superstars: Ted DiBiase defeated Lynn Wagner.
  • March 3, 1991 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Sonny Blaze by count-out.
  • March 24, 1991 – WrestleMania 7: Virgil defeated Ted DiBiase by count-out with help from Roddy Piper.
  • ~~~Sherri Martel, who had turned on Randy Savage earlier in the show, came down midway through the match to support DiBiase.
  • ~~~Sherri Martel became DiBiase’s full time valet, she would do his dirty work and call him “Teddy Bear”.
  • March 23, 1991 – Superstars: Kevin Greeno defeated Ted DiBiase by count-out. The Texas Tornado defeatedTed DiBiase in a dark match.
  • March 31, 1991 – Wrestling Challenge: Ted DiBiase defeated Pat Armstrong.

  • January 18, 1994: Ted DiBiase (on his 40th birthday) suffered an injury to his neck/spine and was forced to retire from wrestling.
  • January 22, 1994 – Royal Rumble: Ted DiBiase had a try-out in the announce position along with Vince McMahon.

World Wrestling Federation – Million Dollar Corporation:

  • Spring 1994: Ted DiBiase returned to the World Wrestling Federation in a managerial roll.
  • Ted DiBiase formed a stable which he called The Million Dollar Corporation with IRS, Bam Bam Bigelow and Nikolai Volkoff.
  • Summer 1994: Ted DiBiase appeared on television and claimed to have gained control of the Undertaker and was bringing him back!
  • ~~~Paul Bearer also showed up and claimed he had contacted the REAL Undertaker and wanted to face DiBiase’s EVIL Undertaker.
  • August 29, 1994 – Summerslam: The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer defeated The Undertaker w/Ted DiBiase.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase brought down his Evil Undertaker – played by one of Undertaker’s “real life” friends – Brian Lee.
  • ~~~The lights began to flicker (simulating thunder and lighting) and The REAL Undertaker finally made his entrance.
  • ~~~The REAL Undertaker tombstoned The Evil Undertaker and pinned him, then rolled him into a casket!
  • Also at SummerSlam: Bam Bam Bigelow and Irwin R. Schyster defeated The Head Shrinkers by Disqualification.
  • Also at SummerSlam: Ted DiBiase added Tatanka to his stable, who turned on his partner Lex Luger, a Corporation target.
  • November 23, 1994 – Survivor Series: Bigelow/Bundy/Tanaka/DelRay/Prichard vs Luger/Mabel/Bomb/Smoking Gunns.

World Wrestling Federation – Million Dollar Corporation vs The Undertaker:

  • The DiBiase’s Million Dollar Corporation feud mostly with The Undertaker, who plowed through each of DiBiase’s men.
  • Ted DiBiase brought King Kong Bundy back to the World Wrestling Federation.
  • January 22, 1995 – Royal Rumble: The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer defeated Irwin R. Schyster w/Ted DiBiase.
  • ~~~After the match, King Kong Bundy went eye to eye with the Undertaker while IRS attacked Paul Bearer and stole the urn!
  • ~~~Also, 123 Kid and Bob Holly defeated Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka w/Ted DiBiase in a Tag Title Tournament Final.
  • ~~~Bam Bam Bigelow jawed with the fans at ringside until he came face-to-face with football legend Lawrence Taylor.
  • ~~~Bam Bam Bigelow took acception to LT’s laughs and shoved him down to the floor!!
  • April 2, 1995 – WrestleMania 11: The Undertaker defeated King Kong Bundy w/Ted DiBiase.
  • ~~~Later that night: Lawrence Taylor defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in a highly publicized main event.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase would later fire Bam Bam Bigelow for embarassing the Corporation in a high profile match.
  • Ted DiBiase revealed his biggest accusition, Sycho Sid to go after WWF Champion Diesel!
  • June 25, 1995 – King of the Ring: Diesel and Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Sycho Sid and Tatanka w/Ted DiBiase.
  • Ted DiBiase bought in Kama, the Supreme Fighting Machine who melted down the Undertaker’s urn and turned it into a necklace!
  • Ted DiBiase also enlisted the services of Henry Godwinn at one point, but Godwinn eventually quit the Corporation and turned face.
  • ~~~Godwinn engaged in a brief and ridiculous feud that saw DiBiase get slopped on several occasions.
  • July 23, 1995 – IYH: Diesel defeated Sycho Sid in a Lumberjack match to retain the Heavyweight title.
  • August 27, 1995 – SummerSam: The Undertaker defeated Kama in a Casket Match.
  • September 24, 1995 – In Your House: Psycho Sid defeated Henry O. Godwinn.
  • Ted DiBiase lured the 1-2-3 Kid into the Corporation and convinced him to turn on his best friend Razor Ramon.
  • November 19, 1995 – Survivor Series: The 1-2-3 Kid was a mystery participant and ended up as the sole survivor in his match.
  • December 17, 1995 – In Your House: Razor Ramon and Marty Jannetty defeated Sycho Sid and 1-2-3 Kid w/Ted DiBiase.
  • February 18, 1996 – In Your House 6: Jake Roberts defeated Tatanka w/Ted DiBiase in the opening match of the night.
  • ~~~Razor Ramon defeated The 1-2-3 Kid w/Ted DiBiase in a Crybaby match (1-2-3 Kid had to wear a diaper).
  • Early 1996: The Million Dollar Corporation had mostly dispanded, but Ted DiBiase had something new in mind.

World Wrestling Federation – Managing the Ring Master:

  • Ted DiBiase brought in perhaps his greatest protege to date, The Ringmaster Steve Austin.
  • Ted DiBiase gave The Ringmaster the old Million Dollar title belt, and let him use the Million Dollar Dream.
  • Ted DiBiase and The Ringmaster began feuding with Savio Vega, after Vega eliminated Ringmaster from the Royal Rumble match.
  • March 31, 1996 – WrestleMania 12: “The Ringmaster” Steve Austin w/Ted DiBiase defeated Savio Vega.
  • April 28, 1996 – In Your House 7: Savio Vega defeated Ringmaster Steve Austin w/Ted DiBiase.
  • May 26, 1996 – Beware of Dog: Savio Vega defeated The Ringmaster in a Caribbean Strap Match forcing DiBiase to leave the WWF.
  • Ted DiBiase’s ten-year illustrious WWF career came to an end.

World Championship Wrestling:

  • Ted DiBiase’s legacy continued in WCW, as he joined the nWo in its early stages.
  • Ted DiBiase soon left the nWo and managed the Steiner Brothers to the WCW World Tag Team titles.
  • Ted DiBiase soon disappeared from WCW storylines, made several hosting appearances on WCW Backstage Blast.
  • Ted DiBiase eventually left the company all together.

Ted DiBiase’s Life:

  • Ted DiBiase is a born-again Christian who travels across USA preaching the word of God at various churches and religious functions.
  • Ted DiBiase is involved in charity work, a spokesman for the Sunshine Foundation, a group that grants wishes to critically ill kids.
  • Ted DiBiase is also a motivational speaker, and appears at various assemblies to speak out against drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Ted DiBiase warns America’s youth about the trap of being addicted to drugs and alcohol.
  • Ted DiBiase encourages them to stay in school, set reachable goals and pay whatever price it takes to become the best they can be.
  • Ted DiBiase was also instrumental in launching the WXO independent wrestling organization.
  • Ted DiBiase published his biography, entitled “Every Man Has His Price”.
  • March 4, 2005: Ted DiBiase is getting a trial run working as both an agent and in creative on the Smackdown! brand.
  • May 6, 2005 – World League Wrestling: Jason Bates defeated Trevor Rhodes by Disqualification by reverse decision.
  • ~~~Ted DiBiase told the referee that Rhodes’ manager had used a cane, Trevor Rhodes then attacked DiBiase, who fought back!
  • May 7, 2005 – World League Wrestling: Jason Bates defeated Trevor Rhodes by disqualification with a similar finish from last night.

  • December 20, 2005: Ted DiBiase collapsed at WWE headquarters in Stamford and lost consciousness and was rushed to hospital.
