In the Beginning: Darren Mathews, at the tender age of 15, answered the Pleasure Beach wrestling troupe's open challenge several times.. ~~~Anyone brave enough to challenge the gladiator could earn a hundred pounds sterling if they lasted three 3-minutes rounds.. ~~~Darren Mathews went on to wrestle in 24 different countries--holding 60 titles in the process! Darren Mathews made his ring debut at age fifteen in England.. Darren Mathews performed under his real name for 2 years before adopting the name, Steven Regal.. Steven Regal wrestled around the world, in countries such as Germany, South Africa, France and The Middle Eastern countries.. 1991: Steven Regal had a try-out with the World Wrestling Federation but was not offered a contract..
