  • March 2011: Was fired from his agent job after authorizing the interruption of the American national anthem by Miz during a house show..
  • Mike Aldren wrote (On July 25, 2011): Fit Finlay has revealed in a new magazine interview that he accepts responsibility for his WWE release earlier this year. The former agent/producer recently spoke with Fighting Spirit Magazine in the UK. The 52-year-old conceded that he was responsible for his own actions, which prompted WWE to fire him from his behind the scenes role in March after authorizing the interruption of the national anthem during a house show. Finlay said: “You know, with WWE. I was given a lot of leeway and a lot of power, and with that comes a lot of responsibility. I made a call that caused a storm, and I paid for it.” He continued: “They play the American National Anthem over here before every live event. We had Miz going out first, and because it was just before Wrestlemania, we were trying to get as much heat on him as possible. So my spur-of-the-moment call, as I sat right by the technician, was to tell him to hit Miz’ music while they were half-way through the National Anthem. Of course, people were up in arms about it, but it was a good reaction as a heel. But they were National Guard people in the building who took exception to it, and I understand that fully. It wasn’t intended to upset people in that way – it was just part of an entertaining show.” Finlay added that the decision to fire him was “the nature of the beast” and puts it down to bad timing.
