In The Beginning

  • John Tenta attended Louisiana State University before going to Japan to take up the sport of Sumo Wrestling.
  • John Tenta signed a big contract with All Japan Pro Wrestling which was run by the legendary Giant Baba.

World Wrestling Federation

  • Tenta debuted when Dino Bravo pulled the “large” man out of the audience to sit on his back while he did push-ups.
  • ~~~”Big John” then sat on Ultimate Warrior’s back, but SQUASHED HIM like a bug!
  • ~~~”Big John” was then given the name “The Canadian Earthquake”, but the Canadian part was eventually dropped.
  • Earthquake and Dino Bravo teamed up for the next several months against men like Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan.

John Tenta vs. Cancer

  • May 2004: John Tenta revealed on the Wrestlecrap forum that he has advanced bladder cancer and will be starting chemotherapy.
  • August 17, 2004: John Tenta announced on the WrestleCrap Forum that he was given 13-to-18 months to live WITHOUT treatment.
  • ~~~He has a new tumor in his left lung. 2 lymph nodes are enlarged in his heart and he’s undergoing 4 chemotherapy sessions a day.
  • November 2005: John Tenta was told the tumor in his hip didn’t react to chemo-therapy and has actually grown larger.
  • ~~~He also has four large tumors on his lungs. His doctor has told him that the chances of long term survival are 10% to 20%..
  • June 7, 2006: John “Earthquake” Tenta passed away after a lengthy battle with bladder cancer at the age of 42..
