WOMEN SUPERSTARS UNCENSORED

DVD #1: “WSU SPIRIT”
DVD #2: “WSU NO LIMITS”
DVD #3: “WSU As The World Turns”
DVD #4: “WSU On The Road Summer ’09”
(August 2009 – Belleville & Boonton, NJ)

====================

INTRODUCTION: Women Superstars Uncensored released four DVD’s featuring matches from their August 14th and 22nd events, including a tournament to crown the first ever WSU Spirit Champion, a classic No Time Limit match between WSU champion Mercedes Martinez and challenger Nikki Roxx, and a blockbuster tag team match with a shocking conclusion! I must also get down on my knees and thank the wrestling Gods for giving me a new WSU broadcast announce team of Tommy Wong & Jimmy Gentry (replacing Sean Hanson & Missy Hyatt). With the exception of a few-too-many unnecessary f-bombs, these two guys are more than a refreshing change for WSU. I was really digging the subtle pop culture references, especially anything related to the Karate Kid movies. Santa also got my letter, and given me an early Christmas present by removing Primetime Amy Lee from WSU. Yay!!!

WSU

WSU SPIRIT

SPIRIT TITLE TOURNAMENT – ROUND #1
Jana vs. Jennifer Cruz: Jana won in convincing fashion, with a relentless submission hold which made a definite statement!

SPIRIT TITLE TOURNAMENT – ROUND #1
Latasha vs. Lea Morrison: This match started out hot and heavy with a brawl outside of the ring. Lea is still developing as a wrestler, and could really use a mentor in the ring. The match was ugly, and the finish was botched by the referee. Latasha picked up the victory and earned the right to face her former tag team partner, Jana, in the finals of the Spirit tournament. Suddenly, Jana showed up and whacked Latasha with a kendo stick!

SPIRIT TITLE TOURNAMENT – ROUND #1
Roxie Cotton vs. Amber: The lovely Roxie Cotton recently set me straight via email on the true spelling of her name. It is ROXIE, but WSU has always spelt it with two X’s on their DVD cases. Amber hasn’t been seen in a WSU ring for quite some time, and the announcers made the point that the creation of the Spirit title has brought some wrestlers out of hiding. Even though Roxie has toned down her 80’s valleygirl gimmick, I still have a major crush on her! While the previous match was a complete mess, this one was a technical treat. Eventually the time limit ran out and the authorities ruled that both girls would advance into the finals!

SINGLES MATCH
Rick Cataldo w/Sean Hanson vs. Manny Moore: I know I have been very critical of Rick Cataldo in the past, but I have decided to say something nice about this young man for a change. The only nice thing I can think of is that his ass is way hotter than Primetime Amy Lee. This match is highly recommended… as in, I highly recommend that you use the fast forward button!

GOLDEN TRIOS TAG TEAM MATCH
WSU champion Mercedes Martinez & WSU Tag Team champions Alicia & Brooke Carter vs. Angel Orsini & Hailey Hatred & Jessicka Havok: This was an amazing collection of WSU talent, new and old. Newcomers Hatred and Havok are making a major impact very quickly in the WSU tag team division. The feud between Martinez and Orsini is on its last legs, so Orsini has aligned herself with Rain to combine their efforts in taking out Martinez. The match itself was great, but the finish was a total chaotic mess which was missed by the camera. After the match, Hatred and Havok used Carter’s face as a punching bag until Martinez made the save with a steel chair! Martinez was fired up and said she could take on Hatred and Havok at the same time! They jumped in the ring and attacked Martinez, but for some reason Orsini came to the rescue! Orsini was the voice of reason, and told the evil Midwest girls to save it for next week!

SPIRIT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT – 4-WAY FINALS
Jana vs. Latasha vs. Roxie Cotton vs. Amber: On one hand you’ve got two great technical wrestlers who deserve the Spirit title, and on the other hand you’ve got the developing feud between former Soul Sisters Jana and Latasha. Jana was the only wrestler taking this match seriously, as the other three participants engaged in a dance-off before the bell. Since it was elimination rules, Jana literally took a seat on the apron and refused to tag into the match. Jana eventually did tag into the match when the time was right and successfully forced Roxie Cotton to tap out and crush her dreams (and mine) of being a champion. Jana went to work on Amber next, as Latasha watched from the sidelines. Jana was on a roll, and confidently forced Amber to tap out. Jana then began to focus on Latasha’s leg, which was injured during the post match assault in the first round. Latasha refused to submit or get pinned, and showed a lot of “spirit,” which I guess is the philosophy behind the Spirit title. After taking a vicious beating, Latasha rolled up Jana for surprise 1-2-3 to become the first ever WSU Spirit champion!

BONUS MATCH (National Wrestling Superstars)
Vicious Vinnie vs. One Warrior Nation: One Warrior Nation is an Ultimate Warrior rip-off, and one of the many reasons I hate watching NWS..

BONUS MATCH (National Wrestling Superstars)
The Nigerian Nightmares vs. B. Fehrm & Sonny Boy Guiano:

BONUS MATCH (National Wrestling Superstars)
Giant Silva vs. J.D. Smoothie & J.P. Pierce & Soul Assassin & Illegal Outer Space Alien: Another GIANT reason I don’t like NWS.

WSU

WSU NO LIMITS

#1 CONTENDERS MATCH (SPIRIT TITLE)
Amber vs. Roxie Cotton: These two great wrestlers were the inadvertent stars of the Spirit title tournament, wrestling to a time limit draw in the first round, but were thankfully pushed into the finals by a grateful promoter. Roxie and Amber came up short in the finals, however, when the feud between Jana and Latasha took priority. While Jana gets the first shot at the Spirit title later on this card, Roxie and Amber fought for the next opportunity. It was a surprisingly short match, ending with Amber scoring the 1-2-3. Amber helped Roxie up to her feet, only for Rick Cataldo to show up and bash Roxie’s face into the mat! Cataldo choked Roxie with his scarf until Annie Social hit the ring to make the save! I couldn’t hear exactly what was said, but I think Roxie challenged Cataldo to a Loser Leaves WSU match..

SINGLES MATCH
Annie Social vs. Amber O’Neal: Amber O’Neal attempted to put her terrible SHIMMER track record behind her and claim her spot in the winners circle with a fresh start in WSU. Amber was looking really hot in her blue two-piece outfit, but was all business in the ring. Annie Social was determined not to be a proverbial welcome mat for the blonde bombshell. Amber scored a pinfall with a backslide with a bridge (very awkward) and ran off like snake, looking somewhat shocked by her own immediate success!

TAG TEAM MATCH
Ariel & Cindy Rogers vs. Hailey Hatred & Jessicka Havok: Hailey Hatred & Jessicka Havok, who call themselves the “Best in the Midwest,” said they were paving their own road to the WSU Tag Team championship, and issued an open challenge to anybody in the back to come out and wrestle them. Cindy Rogers showed up alone, and introduced her tag team partner, the debuting “Portuguese Princess” Ariel! Another SHIMMER athlete jumping to WSU? This match ate up a lot of time on the DVD, perhaps a little too much time, but it was still a good showing by everybody involved. Of course, the Best in the Midwest are being pushed to the top of WSU, so they went over on Cindy & Ariel.

SINGLES MATCH
Lea Morrison vs. Kylie Pierce: This partnership imploded when rookie Lea Morrison was entered into the Spirit tournament and the more experienced Kylie Pierce was left out. Well that means Lea is back to being a babyface, after a brief stint on the wrong side of the tracks. Kylie proved that sometimes it’s good to be BAD, and scored a victory over her former tag team partner…

WSU SPIRIT TITLE MATCH
Latasha (c) vs. Jana: The feud between former Soul Sisters, Jana and Latasha, came to a head with a clash for the brand new WSU Spirit title. Latasha pinned Jana in the finals of a tournament just a week earlier to become the first ever Spirit champion! Jana was almost obsessed with getting revenge on Latasha, as well as the thought of finally wrapping a championship belt around her waist! I’ll admit, Latasha is probably the last person on the WSU roster I would book as a champion (okay, besides Rick Cataldo). The fight spilled out of the ring, into the locker room (sorry no naked wrestlers), and out into the streets of Boonton. Looks like a wet day in the state of New Jersey. They reentered the building, and Jana pushed Latasha head-first into the ring post! A few minutes later, Jana was preparing to finish Latasha with a submission, when Latasha rolled her up for a quick 1-2-3 (a popular finish tonight) to win the match and retain her title! Jana looked like she was on the verge of a major breakdown!!!

MISSY’S MANOR (Wedding Ceremony!)
Missy Hyatt + Rick Cataldo & Sean Hanson: Sean Hanson was calling this a ceremony to celebrate a friendship, but everybody else was calling it a WEDDING. It felt like a bad episode of Monday Night RAW. Sean Hanson came out with a sucker in his mouth, wearing a “Pillman #97” football jersey. It’s really difficult to hear what is being said over the microphone, which makes these types of segments worthless on a DVD home release. Cataldo was excited, but Hanson looked a bit apprehensive about what was going on. The crowd chanted “BORING!” What did I say about a bad episode of RAW? Hanson announced a “Loser Leaves WSU” match between Cataldo and Roxie at the next show. Cataldo was upset, until Hanson gave him a present. Cataldo opened it and it was a bottle of [something], which Hanson snatched back and started drinking. Missy Hyatt pulled a dildo out of her purse and gave it to Hanson, but Cataldo snatched it away and started stroking it. At which point I hit the fast forward button. Seriously WSU, you expect me to say good things about that bullshit? I think they started to kiss, just before Missy Sampson showed up and blah blah blah blah – I think they set up another Loser Leaves WSU match between Sampson and Sean Hanson. This segment was rated UNWATCHABLE.

WSU TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Alicia & Brooke Carter (c) vs. Angel Orsini & Rain: Finally we can get back to the entertainment. Angel & Rain are united by a common goal of taking out Mercedes Martinez, but their affiliation is questionable. Brooke Carter is a sweetheart, but she did not belong in there with the other three very experienced girls. Both teams fought hard, but the heels looked like they might score the championship. Rain brought a steel chair into the ring and instructed Angel to use it on poor little Brooke. Angel refused and questioned Rain’s orders, so Rain grabbed the chair and whacked Carter! The referee saw what happened and disqualified Rain & Angel, which sent Rain into an absolute fury. Rain screamed at Angel as if it were her fault for making her hesitate, allowing the referee to recover from his bump and catch her red-handed.

WSU CHAMPIONSHIP NO-TIME LIMIT MATCH
Mercedes Martinex (c) vs. Nikki Roxx: The main event was a classic-in-the-making between WSU champion Mercedes Martinez and the Uncensored Rumble winner Nikki Roxx. Roxx is back wearing her old Nikki gear, as opposed to her TNA Roxxi uniform. There was a no time-limit stipulation, so we were guaranteed a winner! My advice is to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a match between two professionals. Late in the match, Roxx hit Martinez with her trademark Barbie-crusher, but could not secure the pinfall. Martinez made a come-back and hit a Brain-buster off the ropes and got the 1-2-3 to retain the WSU championship! The match lasted roughly 35 minutes, and will be included as a bonus match on one of the Dragon Gate DVD’s. Both girls embraced after the match, but were attacked by Angel Orsini & Rain! Martinez fought back and kicked the heels out of the ring to save Roxx from more damage!

WSU

WSU AS THE WORLD TURNS

INTRODUCTION: The scene in WSU has begun to resemble an afternoon soap opera, with the drama going down between the Beatdown Betties (Roxie Cotton & Annie Social) and Mr. & Mrs. Cataldo (Rick Cataldo & Sean Hanson). Not to mention combustible elements involved with the main event of Mercedes Martinez & Nikki Roxx vs. Angel Orsini & Rain.

SINGLES MATCH
Jana vs. “J-Cruz” Jennifer Cruz: Jana should have squashed J-Cruz in less than a minute, but they stretched the match out for five minutes. Eventually Latasha came out and sabotaged Jana’s chances by costing her what should have been an easy victory! J-Cruz picks up the biggest win of her career..

#1 CONTENDERS MATCH (SPIRIT TITLE)
Ariel vs. Kylie Pierce vs. Lea Morrison vs. Annie Social: I like the idea of having a #1 Contenders match for the Spirit title on every show, with the winner getting their shot at the next show. Annie Social is looking a little less “pale” these days, but I wouldn’t exactly say she has a tan. She looks great, though! There is a feud brewing between heel Kylie Pierce and former partner Lea Morrison, whose appearance has changed so drastically that I don’t even recognize her. Pierce eliminated Social with a schoolgirl roll-up! Morrison managed to eliminate Pierce and literally rolled her out of the ring! It came down to rookie Morrison and young veteran Ariel. Ariel easily finished off Morrison with the Dariel and earned her opportunity at the Spirit title.

SINGLES MATCH
Cindy Rogers vs. Amber O’Neal: Amber has come over to WSU from SHIMMER, where she was on a colossal losing streak and has never been able to escape the shadow of her former tag team known as Team Blondage. Since her partner (Krissy Vaine) went to WWE (and later retired), she has not been taken seriously in the SHIMMER realm for some reason. She managed to score a victory in her first WSU match on the previous DVD, and the confidence is already beginning to develop. “The Definition of Technician” Cindy Rogers is just starting her ascent back up the WSU ladder, since returning from a very bad injury. Rogers wanted to help O’Neal begin a brand new losing streak, but Amber miraculously won the match and once again shook up the WSU universe! She once again used that awkward Backslide/Bridge combo to score and upset victory, and slithered away like a snake in the grass to celebrate!

WSU SPIRIT TITLE MATCH
Latasha (c) vs. Amber: Latasha was happy to defend her championship against somebody who wouldn’t use dirty tactics against her. The match was over quickly, and Latasha retained her Spirit championship – only to be viciously attacked by Jana backstage after after the match!

LOSER LEAVES WSU MATCH
Roxie Cotton vs. Rick Cataldo w/Sean Hanson: It was my favorite WSU wrestler, Roxie Cotton, against my least favorite WSU wrestler (and I use that term loosely), Rick Cataldo. I have always been behind my girl Roxie 100%, but I have never wanted her to win a match so badly as I did when I watched her attempt take the bad apple out of the barrel before it was too late! Sean Hanson stuck around ringside with a sucker in his mouth giving me a very uneasy feeling in my stomach. Hanson interfered throughout the entire match, and helped Cataldo win the match and get my Roxie banned from WSU. The crowd chanted “Bull-Sh*t!* and I whole-heartedly joined in as I wiped away my tears… Bring back the Cotton!

LOSER LEAVES WSU MATCH
Big Van Missy vs. Sean Hanson: Rick Cataldo & Sean Hanson double-teamed Roxie, until Big Van Missy made the save. Unlike the previous match, I could care less who won this one, because I could honestly do without both of them. Big Van Missy won with a Vader-bomb in two minutes and then took off her mask. Missy looked to heavens to pay homage to her father who recently passed away. Hailey Hatred & Jessicka Havoc hit the ring to attack Missy, while Havok grabbed the microphone and screamed “F*ck you and F*ck your father!” Oh no, she didn’t?! The Best in the Midwest spewed lots of profanity over the microphone, which disappointed me greatly, as the last thing I want is for two perfectly good wrestlers to turn into Primetime Amy Lee. Eventually Alicia & Brooke Carter hit the ring to make the save – and the WSU Tag Team title match got started. On the bright side, Sean Hanson is banned from WSU!

WSU TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Alicia & Brooke Carter (c) vs. Hailey Hatred & Jessicka Havok: Once again, the sweetheart Brooke Carter was pushed into the ring with three superior athletes and stuck out like a sore thumb. Hatred & Havok destroyed rookie Brooke, and Alicia got limited opportunity to go on the offensive. The referee seemed to allow numerous two-on-one assaults on the champions individually. The challengers demolished their opponents and snatched up the WSU Tag Team titles – just like they promised to do. The Best in the Midwest are literally dominating the tag team division here at WSU.. just please please please don’t start acting like Amy Lee version 2 because Amy Lee version 1 was crap!

TAG TEAM MAIN EVENT
Mercedes Martinez & Nikki Roxx vs. Angel Orsini & Rain: This is kind of like putting MENTOS in the ring with SODA, because you just know something is going to explode before it’s all said and done. Rain was calling the shots for her team, and the combination of Mercedes Martinez and Nikki Roxx was built on the respect they earned for each other on the previous DVD, where they faced off in a 35:00 classic. The finish saw Rain hit the Implant DDT and score a pinfall over WSU champion Martinez. This match could have been a twice as long, but the drama began to unfold after the bell. Rain continued the assault on Martinez, as Angel watched from the sideline. The heels quickly jumped out of the ring when Roxx showed up swinging a steel chair! Angel looked around nervously, as Rain watched her master plan unfold in the ring. Roxx suddenly turned heel and assaulted Martinez with the chair and a Barbie-crusher! Rain stepped in and embraced Roxx, as Orsini desperately tried to put two-and-two together. Rain said they were there to take every title that WSU has to offer. Rain offered Orsini a spot in their group if she bashed Martinez with a chair right now! Orsini picked up the chair and thought about it for two seconds before bouncing it off of Rain’s skull! Martinez woke up from her unconcious state and Orsini told her that she earned her respect. Orsini said she busted her ass to make WSU, and won’t let Rain & Roxx come in and take over. Martinez got up and said her feud with Orsini included the greatest matches in WSU history. Martinez talked about the honor of the WSU championship, and addressed Rain & Roxx (but I couldn’t hear what she said). I think we will see this match again some day, but with different combinations on opposite sides of the ring. The DVD finished with Martinez and the babyfaces (Alicia, Brooke Carter, Roxie ‘banned from WSU’ Cotton, Missy Sampson, Amber, Latasha, Lea Morrison, and Cindy Rogers) presenting Angel Orsini with two birthday cakes. Wow, it’s like they knew she would end up on the babyface side before it happened – or something like that!

Rob McCabe wrote: You say you couldn’t hear what Mercedes said to Nikki Roxx and Rain during that post match promo w/Angel after the “Double turn.” I recorded the match/promo too for Mercedes because I run her website (www.thelatinasensation.com), I’m on the stage far away from the hard cam. Pretty Much Mercedes mentioned that Roxx and Rain may have been on TV, but in regards to Rain she says “The way I see it is that I don’t think anybody remembers you on TV as a matter of fact. From what I remember you were just another Rat on TNA. I believe you came out in some skimpy outfit, something that WSU is not all about, so who were you again? Exactly no one cares.” She then turned her attention to Nikki Roxx and mentioned that she helped Nikki with her career in New England and said “I may not have been on TV, but bitch I’m ten times better than you and everybody here knows it!”. Then Mercedes mentioned about when Nikki got her head shaved and that she don’t need to shave her head to get a million dollars and said “I can get a $10 payday and have these fans cheering for me, than be bald baby I love my locks, don’t get it twisted!” She then says she’ll take Nikki on any time, any day, any promotion, in NWS, CZW, New England and said “Bring your ass back down to this ring and I’ll show you a Latin beating you will never EVER forget, I’ll show you who’s the bitch!” Then Angel called Rain the worst employer she’s ever worked for in her life, and challenged her for the next WSU show.

WSU

WSU ON THE ROAD SUMMER 2009

INTERGENDER TAG TEAM MATCH
Hardcore Holly & Brooke Carter vs. ?????? & ??????: It’s good to see Hardcore Holly still working on the independent scene, and it’s always good to just SEE Brooke Carter. The DVD box said that they were facing Angel Orsini & Salvatore Sincere, but it was actually Danny Demanto and some other dude in the ring. This is the kind of production flaw that hurts the product, not to mention there is no commentary track. The focus was all on Demanto being a prick to his girlfriend Brooke Carter – so the match was immediately rendered DUMB. Eventually Hardcore Holly came in and cleaned house for a brief babyface pop. Then they threw reality out the window when Carter “over-powered” Demanto (who is three times her size), finishing him off with her finisher for the win! This meant Holly got five minutes with “the other guy” and he made good use of those five minutes by dismantling him.

BONUS MATCH
Cindy Rogers vs. Jana vs. Kylie Pierce: This match intrigued me, because of the talent involved. No commentary for this match, either. The match took place in a weird building with a very loud echo. Jana played the cowardly heel, ducking out of the ring and refusing to wrestle. This forced Cindy and Kylie to go one-on-one, and I had no problem with that. After some triple threat action, it was Cindy Rogers who came out with her arm raised in a pretty decent match.

SINGLES MATCH
Angel Orsini vs. Brooke Carter: Still no commentary. This match took place at an outdoor venue with the loud humming of a generator (or something) in the background. Doesn’t anybody realize some of these locations are not suitable to record for DVD’s they plan to sell to customers? Why is Brooke Carter wrestling main event stars? She is a total sweetheart, but let’s be realistic for once. After 17:21, about 17:00 longer than a real fight would have lasted, Angel Orsini won the match. Don’t get me wrong, little Brooke has some talent, but she is not in Angel’s league!

WSU CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Mercedes Martinez (c) vs. Jessicka Havok vs. Hailey Hatred: Now things are about to heat up with a spicy hot triple threat match for the WSU championship. Hailey Hatred and her tag team partner Jessicka Havok (who I am falling in love with) tried to strike a deal with special referee Angel Orsini before the match. Oh yeah, still no commentary, but at least the action spoke for itself in this case. The two challengers wisely worked together, hoping to cash in on the WSU championship, but Mercedes Martinez reigned supreme with a successful title defense.

WSU CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Mercedes Martinez (c) vs. Nikki Roxx: Thankfully there was commentary included with this match, which promised to be a classic showdown. You can’t expect anything less from two of the top women’s wrestlers in the world. Roxx came within an eyelash of becoming WSU champion, but Martinez kicked out and moments later the time limit expired on the match. The fans wanted five more minutes. Nikki wanted five more minutes. Mercedes wanted five more minutes. HELL FROZE OVER AND WE GOT FIVE MORE MINUTES! The over-time period expired and the match was official ruled a DRAW. The final 30 seconds were very intense.  After the match, Mercedes Martinez said a time limit draw was bullshit, and challenged Roxx to a no time limit match at the next WSU event.  Roxx accepted and shook on it.

FINAL VERDICT: If you read my review and still buy this particular DVD, then you are an idiot. Not even the last two matches could take the bitter taste out of my mouth. Check out the regular WSU DVD series instead, like the ones I’ve already talked about on this page.
